Visit%20https://www.sworps.tennessee.edu/csw/email/2014_9_25/index.htm> Uma Rao Joins Children's Mental Health Services Research Center as Director [Dr. Uma Rao, Director, CMHSRC]<http://cmhsrc.utk.edu/> Dr. Uma Rao joined the faculty of the University of Tennessee College of Social Work on August 1, 2014, as the Betsey R. Bush Endowed Professor in Behavioral Health and the Director of the Children’s Mental Health Services Research Center. Dr. Rao succeeds Dr. Charles Glisson at the CMHSRC. Dr. Charles Glisson founded the Center in 1988 in the College of Social Work. The Center improves the lives of at-risk youth and their families by researching the health and social service systems that care for them. The center is a national leader in research on organizations that provide mental health and child welfare services to youth and families. [Dr. Charles Glisson] Dr. Charles Glisson Dr. Rao, an MD neuroscientist, has been involved in mood and substance use disorders research for over 20 years. Her primary areas of interest are adolescent depressive and substance use disorders during the developmental transition to adulthood. Dr. Rao’s research interests also include physical/medical conditions that frequently co-occur with these disorders, specifically obesity and pain. Karen Sowers, Dean of the college, stated, "Please join with me in thanking Dr. Glisson for his great leadership of the CMHSRC over the years and join with me in welcoming Dr. Rao to the College of Social Work."
