The Health and Medical Geography Specialty Group (HMGSG) invites current undergraduate and graduate students to submit their work to the specialty group's annual Peter Gould Student Paper Competition. The competition is meant to promote written scholarship
by students across the field. Single-authored papers from any medical, health, disability and/or health systems related topic are encouraged.
The deadline for submitting an extended abstract is November 2, 2014.
Papers will be judged by the HMGSG Awards Committee on several criteria: originality, scholarship, organization, appropriate use of methodology, and written composition. A $100 prize will be awarded in each of two categories: 1) undergraduate students, and
2) graduate students (Master's and Doctoral welcome).
Extended abstracts (500-word maximum) should clearly state the purpose, methodology, and findings of the research, and be emailed to David Lamb (davidlamb [at] mail [dot] usf [dot] edu). The HMGSG Awards committee will review all extended abstracts, and select
up to 5 papers in each category for full review. Papers submitted for full review must be received by February 2, 2015. At this time, authors are asked to submit the names of at least 2 possible reviewers not affiliated with the research.
