GIS Research Openings at ORNL
The Geographic Information Science and Technology (GIST) Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is looking for undergraduate or post-BA/BS candidates to support spatial research initiatives with special emphasis on spatiotemporal population modeling and settlement mapping for response to humanitarian crises. The work will include data collection, input, quality assurance, multi-resolution data analysis and fusion, and verification and validation. There will also be opportunity in the development and implementation of novel population distribution and dynamics models to include temporal, demographic, and cultural characterizations.

Positions require a minimum of 16 hours/week on-site at ORNL.  Appointments typically range from three months to one year subject to renewal upon availability and job performance.
Qualifications:
* Currently enrolled in or recently completed an undergraduate program in geography, demography, geospatial science, or a closely related discipline with exposure to working with digital spatial data and imagery.
* Experience with GIS principles and analytical techniques, data management, and visualization.
* Experience with commercial GIS (ESRI products including ArcInfo, ArcView, ArcGIS) is required.
* Excellent communication (oral and writing), organization, and decision-making skills. Strong interpersonal skills and working effectively as a team member are essential.
