Instructional Services Librarian

The Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) University Library (http://www.ulib.iupui.edu) seeks a creative, energetic, and service-oriented professional to serve in a tenure-track position as Instructional Services Librarian.

The Instructional Services Librarian will provide strategic direction and support for the library’s instructional program and for librarian liaisons in areas of instructional design, pedagogy, and assessment.  The Librarian will also make recommendations concerning program quality and future program direction to the Associate Dean for Teaching, Learning, and Research, to whom they will report.  This is a 12-month tenure-track position which includes expectations of professional development, creative activity, and service.

Specific responsibilities include workshop development, individual consultations with librarian liaisons, overseeing the development of online learning modules and online assessment tools, and compiling and analyzing statistical information relevant to the program.   Additionally, the librarian will be encouraged to seek opportunities for external funding related to goals of the program.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the library’s Instructional Services Librarian
  • Serve as the library’s liaison to the Center for Teaching & Learning
  • Participate in the library’s research consultation and chat reference services
  • Seek funding opportunities that help inform the library’s instructional program

Required Qualifications:

  • ALA accredited Master’s degree
  • Relevant baccalaureate or advanced degree
  • Demonstrated ability in the areas of instructional design and assessment
  • Ability to work and excel in individual and team environments
  • Ability to work well across organizational lines of responsibility

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years’ experience teaching and/or developing curricular materials
  • Prior management experience in an academic setting
  • Grant writing experience

Appointment may be made at either the Assistant or Associate rank.  Minimum salary is $50,000 with funding for professional development and travel.  Benefits include 22 vacation days, 9 paid holidays, health/dental insurance options, and retirement contributions of 10% to either TIAA-CREF or Fidelity plans.  A start-up package includes $10,000 for moving and additional professional development expenses.

Collections Archivist

The Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) University Library (http://www.ulib.iupui.edu) seeks a creative, energetic, technically savvy, and service-oriented professional with a passion and talent for discovering new collections to add to one of the premier repositories for the history of philanthropy. This is a 12-month tenure-track position which includes expectations of professional development, creative activity, and service.  The Collections Archivist reports to the Director of Special Collections and Archives.

The Collections Archivist has the following responsibilities:

  • Solicits, acquires, and manages the collections of the Philanthropic Studies Archives, which document the history of philanthropy; identifies opportunities for emerging collecting areas and specific collecting prospects, approaches potential donors and serves as an ongoing contact for donors.
  • Manages the processing and development of access tools for the Philanthropic Studies Archives; coordinates the work of staff and students in the surveying and processing of collections to ensure that collections are processed efficiently and effectively.
  • Assists virtual and in-person researchers using the collections of Special Collections and Archives; responds to research requests for philanthropic studies materials; works closely with faculty, students, staff, scholars, and other researchers; teaches instructional sessions; and participates in outreach activities and events for the department and the library.
  • Develops digital tools to improve access to collections; selects material for digitization; participates in digital projects; and works with others to manage digital assets.

Required Qualifications:

  • ALA accredited Master’s degree or relevant advanced degree.
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ professional experience in archives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of archival best practices, principles, and current trends, including management of electronic records.
  • Demonstrated experience processing large or complex archival or manuscript collections.
  • Demonstrated experience with creating access tools to archival collections.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to present and share ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to travel to various locations throughout the United States.
  • Ability to move material up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with others as a team within a dynamic organizational environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge or the history of philanthropy and/or non-profit management.
  • Grant writing experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of information technologies, standards, and best practices prevalent in archives, specifically demonstrated knowledge of archival descriptive systems including EAD and DACS.
  • Demonstrated experience with collections development; experience identifying and cultivating donors and other stakeholders in supporting library or archival programs.
  • Supervisory or project management experience.
