NSF: Partnerships for Innovation: Accelerating Innovation Research- Technology Translation (PFI: AIR-TT)
The NSF Partnerships for Innovation (PFI) program within the Division of Industrial Innovation and Partnerships (IIP) is an umbrella for two
complementary subprograms, Accelerating Innovation Research (AIR) and Building Innovation Capacity (BIC). Overall, the PFI program offers opportunities to connect new knowledge to societal benefit through translational research efforts and/or partnerships
that encourage, enhance and accelerate innovation and entrepreneurship. The subject of this solicitation is PFI: AIR-Technology Translation (PFI: AIR-TT). The PFI: AIR-TT solicitation serves as an early opportunity to move previously NSF-funded research results

Podcast: Measurement, Evaluation, and Implications for the Social Sector
(Stanford Social Innovation Review) More and more of us place a premium on the promise of measurement and evaluation
to accelerate social change. But tools like shared measurement, big data, and developmental evaluation are only powerful if they’re applied correctly. In this panel discussion, experts address how the social sector must ask the right questions when developing
metrics.

Broader Impacts Toolbox: Guide to Focus Groups
(Ontario Women’s Health Network) Focus groups are a way of ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard, particularly individuals who experience marginalization, and that the time and experiential
wisdom that participants share with us are advanced to action. Focus groups provide researchers with a unique opportunity to summarize the information that group members share and to communicate this information to those in positions of influence: service
providers, policy makers, academic researchers and community planners. This useful guide provides help and logistical advice on planning, running, and following up after your focus group.

University-Regional Partnerships: Case Studies
(Published June 2014) This booklet provides a variety of case studies of university-regional partnerships across Europe. The cases give an
insight into how universities across Europe are engaging with local, regional and national authorities. The booklet shows a range of university contributions from providing regional economic data and analysis to proposing a relevant model of innovation for
the territory to chairing working groups of entrepreneurs designed to kick start a search process that is central to the “smart specialization” concept. (H/T Community-Campus Partnerships for Health)

Finding the Roots of Civic Engagement in the Public Humanities
When the American Academy of Arts and Sciences makes the case for federal support for the public humanities in
its Heart of the Matter report, it relies on arguments about the potential for civic engagement. AAAS contends, for example, that the humanities encourage “civic vigor” and prepare citizens to be “voters, jurors, and consumers.” A recent report by the Kettering
Foundation agreed, calling civic engagement the focus of the state humanities councils. (H/T Imagining America)
