1.      NSF Director Córdova on Broader Impacts of Research

National Science Foundation Director, Dr. France Córdova, was a featured speaker at the 2nd annual Broader Impacts Infrastructure Summit, held April 16-18 in Arlington, Virginia, two weeks after she was sworn in as director of NSF.  Her remarks and slides are now posted on the NSF website.

3.      National Conference on Engaging Patients, Families & Communities in All Phases of Translational Research to Improve Health

Set for August 21-22, 2014 in Bethesda, MD, this conference focuses on community engagement in the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) and other NIH-funded programs. The CCPH-CTSA Member Interest Group will be meeting at the conference. Grace Damio, Director of Research and Service Initiatives for the Hispanic Health Council is a featured plenary speaker.

4.      American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Accepting Applications for HOPES Seed Grants

The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is accepting applications for its 2014 Hands-on Opportunities to Promote Engagement in Sciences grants.  The annual HOPES seed grants program is designed to support the development of outreach programs and partnerships involving teachers and researchers. Grants of up to $2,000 will be awarded to teams comprising one or more K-12 educator and one or more university, college, or institutional (e.g., NIH, NSF, USDA) research scientist(s).  With the exception of previous HOPES grant recipients,  all teachers and research scientists are eligible to apply.

5.      Grammy Foundation Accepting Letters of Inquiry for Grants in Music Research and Preservation Projects

The GRAMMY Foundation Grant Program awards grants to organizations and individuals to support research on the impact of music on the human condition. Examples might include the study of the effects of music on mood, cognition and healing, as well as the medical and occupational well-being of music professionals and the creative process underlying music. Priority is given to projects with strong methodological design as well those addressing an important research question.

6.      Elton John Aids Foundation :  HIV/AIDS-related Research and Civil Rights Projects

Grants of up to $75,000 will be awarded for projects in the areas of improving health outcomes and advancing equal rights for African Americans; sexual health and rights of adolescents and young adults; syringe access and harm reduction; health and rights of people who are or were recently incarcerated; and/or access to HIV treatment.
