Associate Director, Collection Management and Services
University of St. Thomas Libraries

The University of St. Thomas Libraries (http://www.stthomas.edu/libraries/) have opened a search for an Associate Director, Collection Management and Services.

This position provides leadership and vision for the libraries' collection management in a hybrid environment of print and digital collections.  The Associate Director for Collection Management and Services supports the mission of the University of St. Thomas and our libraries through the development of current, high quality and relevant library collections which support the University's curricular and research objectives.

A strong candidate will have knowledge in the following areas:   library acquisition practices and budget availability; principles and practices of library operations;  administrative principles and practices, including goal setting, program development, implementation and evaluation, and the management of employees through multiple levels of supervision; principles and practices of developing teams, motivating employees and managing in a team environment; principles and practices of budget development and administration; computer applications related to the work; record management principles and practices.

This position requires the ability to serve as a bridge between those primarily involved in the daily operation of the collections management functions of an academic library and those outside the department, including the library director and senior administrative officers of the university.  The incumbent must balance knowledge and sensitivity of the daily challenges of technical services with an excitement and enthusiasm for the integration of this function into the broader, user-oriented perspective of the library as a whole.  High level of communications skills required, as well as enthusiasm for the future role of the academic library.

Education/Experience:
Required education and experience include a Master's degree in Library Science and ten years of experience in an academic or special library with increasing level of responsibility in collection development, management, acquisitions, cataloging, and serials management.  Candidate must have demonstrated experience with contemporary library management systems.  Preferred experience includes managing significant acquisitions budgets and operating in enterprise financial systems, knowledge of Summon and other Proquest management tools, and experience with an ILS migration highly desirable.
