Instructional Services Librarian

Tenure-Track Assistant Professor

 

University of North Alabama, Florence, Alabama

 

The University of North Alabama invites applications for an energetic, innovative, outgoing, and proactive tenure-track faculty member to engage in service-oriented instructional and research services.  This 12-month position will provide library instruction to undergraduate and graduate students, with a focus on first-year experience programs. The successful candidate will work individually and as part of an instruction team to develop, deliver, and assess traditional and electronic library instruction (including developing technology-based instructional materials) and actively participate in outreach to the university community.

              

In addition, librarians work collegially and are expected to assume leadership roles within the library and the university. Faculty librarians must demonstrate a commitment to professional effectiveness, engage in an ongoing program of scholarship, and participate in professional service suitable to fulfill tenure and promotion requirements.

 

The University of North Alabama, a comprehensive regional institution, is located in Florence, Alabama, north of the Tennessee River.  The university enrolls over 7,000 undergraduate and graduate students and employs over 240 full-time faculty.  Florence, located in northwest Alabama, is one of four small cities comprising the area known as “the Shoals” with a combined population of over 140,000.  The area offers a rich history, natural beauty, and numerous cultural and outdoor recreational opportunities.  Florence is located within driving distance (1-3 hours) of larger cities--Huntsville and Birmingham, Alabama; Nashville and Memphis, TN. 

 

Required Qualifications:

 

·         MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program (Degree must be conferred prior to August 1, 2014)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Professional experience with first-year experience programs

·         Professional experience in library instruction in an academic library

·         Recent experience and/or coursework in the provision of library instruction/information literacy

·         Experience using databases, discovery tools and web resources

·         Experience in providing reference/research assistance

·         Experience in creating tutorials, surveys, and guides

·         Demonstrated flexibility in dealing with people, technology, and multiple priorities

·         Experience with outreach/promotion activities

Salary and Benefits:
