Description: The concept of “complete streets” is becoming an important part of planning and design in urban and community planning across the country.  Projects to design and re-engineer streets to accommodate all users in a more safe and equitable manner have been pursued in large and small cities, with tangible benefits for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit users.  The complete streets improvements have also enhanced community quality of life in many locations.  However, freight movement mobility needs are not usually highlighted as a consideration in complete streets planning and implementation.  Freight movements, primarily in the form of truck deliveries and pickups, are integral to serving the businesses that enhance the benefits of walking, bicycling, and public transit use in communities with complete streets.

This webinar examines how complete streets approaches and projects have addressed freight movement needs, and whether there are opportunities for more fully integrating these freight transportation needs into complete streets designs within large and small urban areas.

Complete Streets and Goods Movement: Options and Considerations

This presentation will provide an overview of how goods movements can be incorporated into complete streets designs in a way that enhances walking, bicycling, and public transit as well as freight transportation while minimizing the negative impacts of goods movements on communities and tight street designs on goods movements.
