The James E. Walker Library at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) seeks candidates for the position of Digital Scholarship Librarian. This position will be responsible for advancing and supporting library programs for development of an Institutional Repository, digital collections and services in support of digital scholarship, including a graduate and faculty digital scholarship laboratory. Provides leadership and engages with campus academic departments, centers and individual faculty directly and through Library liaisons to encourage inclusion of scholarly materials in the Institutional repository, identify opportunities to support faculty and student digital scholarship and build partnerships for the creation of digital collections. The Digital Scholarship Librarian will work in a highly collaborative environment with Walker Library staff and faculty and staff of archival centers in other administrative units. This position reports to the Dean of Walker Library. 

Responsibilities:
  • Develop strategic plans, budgets and manage ongoing projects in concert with members of the library and archive partnership. 
  • Knowledgeable on issues of copyright and rights management in relationship to digital publication. 
  • Establishes and documents campus wide technical and metadata standards for digitization and digital collections. 
  • Coordinates the development of a new institutional repository with the overall digital collections projects 
  • Within the library, effectively work with a cross department project team in collaboration with the Heads of User Services, Collection Development and Management and Library Technology to plan, implement and manage digital projects, including the underlying technology infrastructure. 
  • Leads efforts to obtain and manage grants and outside funding in support of digital initiatives. 
  • Coordinates the collaboration between Walker Library and campus archival centers in the development and implementation of digital scholarship project. 
  • Participate in professional service and research activities in support of promotion and tenure requirements.

The UTC Library seeks a motivated, creative, and user-focused professional to fill our new Online Services Librarian position at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga (UTC). The librarian in this position will plan, develop, and implement online and distance education service initiatives that support UTC faculty and students and enhance usage of the Library’s research collections and services. Library Description:

UTC is in the final stages of preparation for the opening of a 5-story 180,000 square foot library with an expected move in date of December of 2014. The Library staff is comprised of 20 librarians and 11 staff members, has an annual budget of just over 3 million dollars, and collection holdings of more than 500,000 volumes, over 2,500 active journal subscriptions, 120 databases, and over 28,000 accessible online journals. The new Library will have a large information commons with 150+ public computers, 38 group study rooms, a media studio, 3 well-equipped library instruction classrooms, a cafe and a 24 hour study space. The Library delivers a comprehensive range of public services, including proactive outreach, instruction, and reference. Current projects include a website redesign, the development of an institutional repository and the upcoming grand opening of the new library.

Position Description

Reporting to the Head of Research and Public Services, the Online Services Librarian plays a leadership role in the development, planning, promotion, delivery, and evaluation of the Library’s online and distance education efforts. The librarian will structure the Library’s online and distance education program, serve as the Library’s point person for online service initiatives, foster a culture of flexible support for students and faculty, and communicate and coordinate with library colleagues to distribute information and ensure successful and sustainable support programs.

Responsibilities Include

  • Coordinate, plan, develop, and implement online policies and services related to instruction and reference, such as teaching online workshops and classes, managing discussion boards, and developing web-based services, tutorials, portals, guides, etc.
  • Coordinate, and participate in the planning, development, and implementation of other online services and policies (such as interlibrary loan and collection development).
  • Provide information, support, and training to liaison librarians and instruction librarians as it relates to online and distance services and skill sets.
  • Actively engage with non-library colleagues working in the online and distance education arena at UTC, such as faculty, instructional designers, and advisors.
  • Experiment with emerging technologies and resources supportive of online and distance services.
  • Work with library departments to support the gathering and reporting of appropriate statistics.
  • Participate in the Library’s instruction program.

This position has regular reference desk work, collection development in assigned subject areas, committee assignments, a weekend reference desk rotation, and other library-wide efforts.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program.

Detailed Description  
•Deliverables Management: the Program Director shall manage all deliverables set forth in the contract and communicate status regularly to all stakeholders and clients.

•Schedule Management:  the Program Director shall review and understand project plans; ensure that project plans are being developed at a task and resource level and have been incorporated into the master project plan. Facilitate the creation of the master project plan. Communicate to the appropriate stakeholders any changes to the master project plan that will impact project deliverables or milestones (note, any changes to master project plan after baseline, must go through CCB for approval).  Understand critical paths and communicate to any changes or issues within the program that may have an impact on the project plans and/or contractual obligations. 
•Issue Management: the Program Director shall identify and document issues, and manage program-level issues. 
•Performance Management: the program manager shall submit regular status updates to all stakeholders and clients.
•Quality Management: the Program Director shall enforce quality reviews, Identify and raise suggestions for improvement.  Understand sponsor expectations and manage to them.  Recognize teams and individuals (formally and informally) for exceptional contribution.  Provide audit adherence to all corporate and contractual standards.
•Resource Management:   the Program Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the resource management process.  Emdeon managers are responsible for identifying and freeing up internal candidates.  Staffing issues should be escalated to the Program Directors.  Personnel issues should be escalated to Human Resources as required by Emdeon Business Services policy.
•Risk Management:  the Program Director shall identify and document risks and manage program-level risks.  They shall create mitigation and contingency plans, mitigate risks and execute contingency plans where necessary
