Associate Dean for Learning and Research Services

The University of Miami Libraries (UML) seeks an Associate Dean to bring vision and innovation to their newly restructured leadership team. The new Associate Dean will join an exceptional team of three other associate deans, supporting the Dean of Libraries, Chuck Eckman. These four individuals will shape and promote the mission of collaboration and develop new programs, structure, and tradition for the University of Miami Libraries.

The Associate Dean for Learning & Research Services, in collaboration with the Libraries’ Associate Deans for Digital Strategies and for Digital Library Innovation, will also work to further develop the Libraries’ digital scholarship services and transform the Libraries’ Information Commons into an academically engaged Learning Commons.

Reporting to the Dean and University Librarian, the Associate Dean will supervise and provide strategic direction for the Libraries’ Education and Outreach department (based in the Otto G. Richter Library serving interdisciplinary research) and four subject specialty libraries serving the faculty and students of architecture, business, marine and atmospheric sciences, and music. The Associate Dean will work to further develop the Libraries’ digital scholarship services and transform the Libraries’ Information Commons into an academically engaged Learning Commons. She/he will also develop successful ways to communicate and promote the Libraries’ services to our vibrant and diverse University community.

Required qualifications for this role include:

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, computer science, instructional technology, or related fields.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working in academic research libraries.
  • Experience managing a major public services department/unit in a complex and rapidly changing environment.
  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively supervise, evaluate motivate, and mentor staff.
  • Familiarity with current practices for copyright education.

Rogers Library at Francis Marion University is seeking a full-time librarian to participate in the delivery of library services.  This tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor is anticipated to start on July 1, 2014.
