*Summary: *An employee in this classification performs professional and
technical library work in a variety of assignments on a part-time schedule
(20 hours per week).  The assistant director is responsible for knowing the
libraries in his/her region, developing an intimate understanding of their
history, programs and services, goals, strengths and weaknesses. The
assistant director is expected to develop strong business relationships
with key personnel at each local library, to be accessible, and to provide
guidance and advice to board members and library managers. The assistant
director assists library boards in policy development and planning; works
with local government officials and local library support groups to promote
advocacy and awareness; and aids local library directors and staff by
providing training, assistance and advice in all areas of public library
service. The assistant director also assists libraries in the region with
applying for grants. The employee will be expected to travel throughout the
region and to attend meetings and training programs at the State Library
and Archives in Nashville or in other areas of the state.



*Duties/Responsibilities*

   - Assists public library directors and staff by providing training,
   assistance and guidance in areas including planning, budgeting,
   supervision, technology, collection development, resource sharing, service
   improvements, data collection and statistical analysis.
   - Attends local library board meetings as directed to ascertain and
   assist with library policy, planning and development.
   - Plans and presents group and one-on-one training for library services.
   - Provides assistance with grant preparation.
   - Contributes to reports for local libraries, the regional board, and
   the State Library and Archives.
   - Attends mandatory meetings and training sessions which may require
   overnight travel.
   - Other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills and Experience

*Minimum Qualifications*

Education and Experience:

   - ALA-accredited Masters Degree in Library or Information Science.
   - Three years experience in library work, preferably in a public library
   setting, in an increasingly responsible position.



Knowledge and Abilities:

   - Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.
   - Possesses intermediate to advanced skills in computer operations.
   - Has thorough knowledge of current public library practices and trends,
   including modern library technology.
   - Has working knowledge of online library management systems.
   - Strong organizational skills, including the ability to establish
   priorities, follow project timelines and meet project deadlines.
   - Has demonstrated skills in public speaking.
   - Understands the requirements of adult education and has the ability to
   plan and present effective library in-service training and continuing
   education programs.
   - Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule and travel
   independently throughout the region and the state.
   - Requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and
   speaking.
   - Must possess a good driving record and valid driver's license.
   - Ability to move and lift materials of 35 pounds.
   - Ability to stoop, bend and lift to file and retrieve materials.
   - Must exhibit the ability to be a positive influence within the region
   and while representing the region.
   - Ability to work collegially as part of a team.
   - Ability to work in an environment with books that contain dust and
   other allergens.

*LAC Group *is seeking a full-time, innovative *Librarian *for our client's
Philadelphia office, an international law firm. The Librarian is
responsible for providing reference services to the entire firm, working as
liaison for practice groups, and for supervision of the operation of the
Philadelphia office library.  This is a full-time position and is an
excellent opportunity for a dynamic law librarian.

Responsibilities:

   - Supervise research support staff in Philadelphia, including the
   Assistant Librarian;
   - Track and record billable and non-billable time spent providing
   research services to library clients on a daily basis and promptly process
   requests;
   - Update and implement library policies in accordance with established
   Firm procedures;
   - Conduct library orientations and trainings with new attorneys and
   staff;
   - Promote library services to legal and administrative staff in the
   Philadelphia office and practice groups;
   - Pursue continuing education opportunities and read professional
   literature to ensure that the firm's research services are efficient,
   cost-effective and complete;
   - Instruct patrons in using of materials in the library collection,
   including online databases;
   - Develop research guides and pathfinders to library collection;
   - Produce current awareness newsletters and alerts and monitor
   legislative issues for attorneys;
   - Assist the Technical Services Manager, Technical Services staff and
   Practice Group Directors with budgets and implements new products;
   - Review collection for acquisition/deselecting/weeding of materials and
   plan for space issues and oversees shifting of the collection;
   - Work with the Technical Services Manager and Technical Services staff
   to process monthly invoices for online vendors and prepares chargeback
   reports from client's monthly online research fees that are not handled
   directly;
   - Work with the Technical Services Manager to prepare annual library
   budget and monitor it throughout the year;
   - Coordinate with Systems Librarian on the selection and organization of
   library intranet materials;
   - Additional duties as needed or requested.

*Qualifications and Knowledge:*

   - Masters, Library Science of Information Science (MLS/MLIS) is required;
   - A minimum of five years law library experience;
   - A minimum of three years of supervisory experience;
   - Extensive legal and business research experience using both online and
   print resources;
   - Knowledge of law firm budgeting;
   - Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
   - Extensive library technical skill and knowledge;
   - Outstanding problem solving ability;
   - Effective interpersonal skills;
   - Outstanding organizational skills;
   - Proficient with Microsoft programs including Excel, Outlook, Word and

   - *LAC Group* seeks an *Overnight Archives Assistant* for an ongoing
   project with our client, located in Chicago, IL.  The Assistant will help
   the Archives Team to ingest print materials into the necessary research
   databases.  This is a fulltime, 40 hour per week, benefited position, with
   the hours being from 10:00pm - 6:30am, Tuesday through Saturday.

   Responsibilities:
   - Compare electronic copies of archive stories and picture captions to
      make sure they match those in the printed editions, using both
the printed
      newspaper and PDF versions of the newspaper pages;
      - Add and check metadata of archive stories, including assigning
      keywords, add memo information and check edition names, column names and
      source information;
      - Copy and convert text from printed graphics into meaningful formats
      for the text archives;
      - Copy and reformat stories and captions from PDF pages into a format
      compatible with the text archives, when stories are not available on the
      archive system;
      - Follow-up on archive stories that need further attention;
      - Correct stories for which there are published and unpublished
      corrections;
      - Work with team to digitally archive deadline sensitive materials;
      - Monitor content feeds to vendors and compile/maintain documentation
      for archiving standards.

   Qualifications:
   - Minimum of two years print archives experience required;
      - Ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities;
      - Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team;
      - Previous experience in the physical processing of print materials
      preferred;
      - Some knowledge in the use of Lexis-Nexis, Factiva, and ProQuest.
