Information Management Specialist

Job Summary (Job Opening ID: 645642)

Are you looking for a challenge?  Are you interested in information management and in helping researchers find the information they need to be successful in their work?  Are you interested in moving the discoverability of information forward in new and creative ways?  The Sandia Technical Library is looking for an individual who has these interests at heart; as well as an individual who has an interest in the kind of work, products and services that a research library delivers.  In the perfect role, the selected individual will have technical responsibilities for the Library’s discovery layers – including the Ex Libris products of Primo and SFX and the Library’s Sirsi-Dynix Horizon integrated library system (ILS). The selected individual will work closely with, joined at the hip of sorts, with the Technical Library’s Web/SharePoint Librarian to develop and deploy solutions that enable the Sandia Research community to find the information they need in support of mission work.  The selected individual will also work with, as directed by Library Management, with a sister IT organization in the further development of search and discovery tools that improve our service to Library customers.

Primary Duties

  • Translates business needs into information solutions and defines solutions to business problems through reasoned application of information management principles
  • May work with management information systems specialist to optimize information management software applications that link through networks, in existing stand-alone computers, or to coordinate data systems in intranet environments
  • Describes information and relationships in taxonomies, metadata schemas, and ontologies, which may be used for organization, retrieval, or presentation of information
  • May work with internal clients to manage and use information management systems or tools to collect and disseminate information, communications, and data to internal and external team members and customers
  • May work with internal clients on selection, configuration, and use of information management systems and integrated information management solutions
  • Ensures information management and communication tools evolve to meet the users’ changing communication and collaboration requirements
  • May establish inventories of information repositories and sources, and explore opportunities for information reuse and repurpose
  • Assists with implementing information systems to meet business and user requirements
  • Tests applications and reports to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Conducts and participates in multidisciplinary research and collaborates with software developers and customers in the design, development, and testing of custom applications
  • Works with clients and staff to conduct high-level investigations for strategies, requirements specifications, and feasibility studies, and communicates requirements to members of the workforce

Required

Desired

  • A cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher for undergraduate and 3.5 or higher for graduate degrees
  • A Master's degree in Library Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field plus 2 or more years of experience
  • A minimum of two-years of experience with the technical management and support of library technologies – such as search discovery tools, integrated library systems and link-resolvers
  • Technical experience with the Ex Libris products Primo and SFX
  • Technical experience with the Sirsi-Dynix Horizon integrated library system
  • Technical experience with deploying an open-source integrated library system
  • Demonstrated programming skills in a variety of computer languages

The Henry Madden Library at California State University, Fresno seeks a knowledgeable, innovative, team-oriented librarian to join our faculty as Head of Cataloging and Metadata Services, managing the Metadata and Resource Description Unit. The incumbent will oversee a staff of one librarian and three library support specialists. Cataloging includes original and copy cataloging of all formats, including print and special formats, authority control, database maintenance, and special projects. Metadata includes all aspects of developing the institutional repository (IR) metadata creation and ingest procedures. The incumbent will establish policies; develop procedures; set goals; design and monitor workflow; adopt and implement new technologies; supervise, train, and evaluate staff; serve as a member of the Library Council; participate in faculty governance, administrative committees, and special library projects and campus committees.

Les personnes occupant un poste à durée déterminée peuvent bénéficier de reconductions subséquentes si leur rendement au travail est satisfaisant, et sous réserve des besoins de l’unité et de la disponibilité des fonds. Principales responsabilités

Passer en revue et négocier les licences d’utilisation; gérer les problèmes de conformité.

En collaboration avec les éditeurs et les fournisseurs, coordonner les essais et résoudre les problèmes de licence, de tarif et d’accès.

Gérer les achats et les renouvellements de ressources électroniques.

En collaboration avec les responsables de la sélection des documents, repérer et prioriser les nouvelles acquisitions potentielles.

Conjointement avec le coordonnateur des ressources électroniques, élaborer un plan en vue de l’établissement d’un programme d’évaluation des ressources électroniques et en amorcer la mise en œuvre.

Analyser et diffuser les données sur l’utilisation; préparer des rapports qui contribueront à une prise de décision opportune en matière de collections.

À titre de membre de l’équipe responsable des ressources électroniques, gérer les ententes entre bibliothèques sur les ressources électroniques, au besoin.

En collaboration avec les autres bibliothécaires et le personnel du Service des collections, ainsi que le Service des systèmes des Bibliothèques, assurer l’acquisition de ressources électroniques et l’accès à ces dernières en temps opportun; au moyen du système de gestion approprié (module III), de ProQuest 360 (anciennement Serials Solutions) et d’autres services externes, maintenir à jour les dossiers relatifs aux ressources électroniques.

S’assurer que les changements apportés aux ressources électroniques sont communiqués au personnel et aux utilisateurs.

En collaboration avec le coordonnateur des ressources électroniques, les responsables de la sélection des documents et le personnel des communications, faire connaître les ressources électroniques offertes à la communauté des utilisateurs de Concordia.

Exigences

Diplôme de maîtrise d’une école de bibliothéconomie agréée par l’American Library Association (ALA), ou formation équivalente acceptée comme condition d’admission à la Corporation des bibliothécaires professionnels du Québec.

Expérience récente au sein d’une bibliothèque universitaire, ou l’équivalent.
Expérience en acquisition et en gestion des ressources électroniques, notamment à l’aide d’un système informatique.
Connaissance des pratiques exemplaires ou expérience en matière de gestion de licences et de développement de collections de ressources électroniques.
Connaissance des solutions établies ou émergentes qui facilitent l’accès aux ressources électroniques, comme les résolveurs de liens et les systèmes de gestion des ressources électroniques, ou souci de se tenir à jour dans ce domaine.
Volonté et aptitude éprouvées à appliquer des idées novatrices afin d’atteindre les objectifs de l’Université.

Under the direction of the Associate University Librarian, Collections Services, and in collaboration with the Electronic Resources Coordinator, the Electronic Resources Librarian will negotiate license terms for the acquisition and renewal of electronic resources; ensure timely acquisition of, and access to, electronic resources; provide support to selectors in the selection, assessment, and prioritization of e-resources; and develop and initiate implementation of an e-resources assessment program.

Individuals holding limited-term appointments may receive subsequent reappointments, given continued funding and need, as well as satisfactory job performance. Together, the initial and subsequent limited-term appointments may not exceed 36 months or a span of three consecutive years.

Primary Tasks

Reviews and negotiates license agreements and compliance issues.

Works with publishers and vendors to coordinate trials and resolve issues of licensing, pricing, and access.

Manages purchases and renewals for electronic resources.

Collaborates with subject selectors to identify and prioritize potential new acquisitions.

Working with the Electronic Resources Coordinator, develops and initiates implementation of a plan for an e-resources assessment program.

Analyzes and disseminates usage data, and prepares reports to assist in timely decision-making about collections.

As part of an e-resources team, manages consortial agreements for electronic resources as assigned.

Works with other Collection Services librarians and staff, as well as the Library Systems Department, to ensure timely acquisition of, and access to, electronic resources; and the maintenance of up-to-date records for electronic resources using the Electronic Resource Management (ERM) module (III), ProQuest 360 (formerly Serials Solutions), and other external services.

Ensures that changes in electronic resources are communicated to staff and users.

Working with the Electronic Resources Coordinator, collaborates with selectors and communications staff in raising awareness in the Concordia user community of available electronic resources.

Monitors trends and developments in electronic resources.


Qualifications

Master's degree from a library school accredited by the American Library Association, or approved equivalent education and training acceptable for membership in the Corporation of Professional Librarians of Québec.

Recent professional experience in an academic library, or other relevant experience.
Experience with acquisition and management of electronic resources, including E-Resource Management Systems (ERMs).
Knowledge of best practices, and/or experience in licensing and collection development of electronic resources.
Interest in, or knowledge of, current and emerging technologies to improve access to electronic resources, including link resolvers and management of electronic resources.
Demonstrated commitment and ability to apply creative ideas in the pursuit of institutional goals.

Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, flexibility, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment.

Aptitude for service oriented work, and ability to work with the public and colleagues in a tactful manner in a multicultural environment.

Salary and Benefits
