More Than 200 Students Prepare for Service-Filled Spring Break Trips

Next week, more than 200 students will bring their Volunteer spirit to Jamaica and cities across the U.S. Several large groups are traveling to serve other communities through the Alternative Breaks program and various colleges. Share photos of how you are being a Volunteer during the break with the hashtag  #volbreak on Instagram and Twitter.


Cone Zone: Student Union Pedestrian Bridge

Framing is underway on the first phase of the new Student Union. The new pedestrian bridge which will extend from Volunteer Boulevard to the Hill is on track to open by fall semester. The building will open next spring. The new Student Union is being built in two phases.  


Reminders

Cone Zone: Portion of 16th Street to Close During Spring Break

Coinciding with spring break, 16th Street will be closed between Cumberland Avenue and White Avenue from 7:00 a.m.to 4:00 p.m. this Saturday through Sunday, March 23. The work is part of the renovation and significant expansion to a modern class and laboratory building of Sophronia Strong Hall.


Residence Halls to Close During Spring Break

All residence halls with the exception of Apartment Residence Hall, Massey Hall, and Vol Hall will be closed during spring break. Halls will close at noon on Saturday, March 15, and will reopen at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 23.

Register for the Big Orange STEM Symposium

The Big Orange STEM Symposium will host a STEM Fair with exhibitors and concurrent presentations by undergraduate students, professors, and professionals. The symposium will provide free lunch and giveaways to attendees. Register for the event set for March 29 in Hodges Library.


Apply for Boyd Venture Fund Spring 2014 Grants

The Boyd Venture Fund is accepting applications from student-owned companies that need financial help to grow their businesses. Applications are due by March 24.

Out and about in Knoxville

Volunteer for the Girl Scouts Mega-Cookie Booth Event

Volunteers are needed from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28 in Market Square for the Mega–Cookie Booth event. Volunteers will judge hula hoop and dance contests, paint faces, and help with games.

Congrats to the Lady Vols basketball team on their SEC tournament win on Sunday against Kentucky. This is the first SEC tournament win under head coach Holly Warlick. The team is now awaiting news of their slot for the NCAA tournament.

The film series is part of the College of Architecture and Design's Church Lecture Series. Beauty Is Embarrassing is about Wayne White, a commercial artist from Tennessee.
