Director of the School of Library and Information Science

Louisiana State University invites applications for the position of Director of the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS). The director is the top academic and administrative officer of the school overseeing 10 tenure-track faculty and 2.5 staff positions. This position reports directly to the Dean of the College of Human Science and Education.

Responsibilities:
• Provides leadership and support for teaching, research, service, and accreditation processes.
• Manages personnel and other SLIS resources, actively seeking external funding and development opportunities.
• Represents SLIS at regular meetings and other planning sessions that have college- or university-wide implications
• Develops a close working alliance with stakeholders, including alumni and employers.
• Maintains a congenial and collaborative relationship with all units in the College of Human Science and Education, and with the State Library, LOUIS, and other Louisiana library networks.
• Acts as an advocate for SLIS and its specializations at the state, national and international levels.
• Supports a commitment to diversity among faculty and students.
• Actively recruits students at the state, national and international levels.

About the School: Founded in 1926, the Library and Information Science program has been continuously accredited throughout its history and was re-accredited in 2012 for seven years. With a current enrollment of approximately 160 students, the school confers the Masters of Library and Information Science in three areas of specialization: archives, libraries and information management. SLIS faculty are recognized as innovators of distance learning on the LSU campus, and students may complete the program via synchronous & asynchronous online delivery and traditional classes.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Library and Information Science (LIS) or a related field with ten (10) years of applicable experience. Eligibility for appointment as full professor, including a strong record of scholarly research and grant activity; teaching and administrative experience at the university level, including supervision and support of graduate programs. Preferred qualifications: Knowledge of a multitude of distance learning methods and technologies; demonstrated expertise in strategic and fiscal planning; experience working collaboratively within academic and professional communities; experience mentoring faculty and students.
