DESCRIPTION:

Tusculum College is seeking an energetic and service oriented librarian for the Thomas J. Garland Library to provide distance education library services for the nontraditional adult students and the faculty in the Tusculum College Graduate & Professional Studies program (Northeast region) and to be the library's Webmaster. Based at Greeneville, the librarian will provide in-person, telephone, and electronic support for GPS teaching and learning activities and provide information literacy classes (and assessment) and library orientation (virtual and physical) for students and faculty in the Distance Education community.  Garland Library maintains an active WWW presence with links to its services, resources, and other activities. The librarian will maintain the library's web pages, revising and expanding as required, and will seek to provide innovative new online learning resources (e.g. online tutorials, web applications, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Master's Degree in Library (MLS) or Information Science (MSIS) from an ALA accredited institution, and a minimum of two years experience in library instruction and technology services.

The successful candidate must have a genuine commitment to excellent customer service and be a team player. Additionally, the candidate must be flexible, innovative and have knowledge of current trends in libraries and information technology. Depending upon GPS needs, evening and some weekend hours will be required. As required, the librarian may also engage in general circulation desk duty and special projects alone or in collaboration with other library staff.

Applicants should possess human relations qualities necessary for successful interaction with students (particularly adult learners), faculty, and staff with the ability to lead and participate in a collaborative library team environment., the ability to teach library research skills to classes and individuals, and the ability and willingness to travel to remote sites on a regular basis to provide library orientation and instruction.

Knowledge of and application skills in website construction and maintenance with demonstrated experience in troubleshooting basic back-end web site issues (e.g., non-working web-page links, database subscription interruptions, etc.) as well as basic computer hardware and software issues, alone or in conjunction with other library staff or staff from Information Systems. Experience in creating instructional materials, physical and virtual is a must.
