NCCU Associate Dean in the SLIS North Carolina Central University invites 
applications and nominations for a tenure track faculty position, at the 
rank of professor, with an administrative role as an associate dean. 
Position is based within the School of Library and Information Sciences 
(SLIS).

OVERVIEW

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) is a comprehensive University 
located in the Research Triangle region of the state. The university 
offers programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional level and 
has an enrollment of over 8,500 students. Over the next several years, the 
university expects to enhance the marketability of its master's degree 
offerings and to establish more doctoral programs. NCCU is one of 
seventeen constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina 
system. Historically, it is the nation's first public liberal arts 
institution founded for African Americans and is currently serving very 
diverse student and faculty populations.

The School of Library and Information Sciences (SLIS) has several 
concentrations in the Master of Library Science degree program, including 
the following: Academic Librarianship, Archives and Records management, 
Digital Librarianship, Public Librarianship, School Media Librarianship, 
and Special Librarianship. The Master of Information Science (MIS) offers 
two areas of concentration, Networking and Communications, and Strategic 
Information Management. Two joint degree programs are also available, the 
JD/MLS (with the School of Law), and the MBA/MIS (with the School of 
Business). We capitalize on the unique opportunities provided by our 
location near the Research Triangle Park area, other universities and 
corporations of North Carolina and beyond. Knowledge, Skills and 
Abilities: This position is a full-time EPA Tenure Track Faculty 
appointment at the rank of professor, with an administrative role as an 
associate dean. The administrative role as an associate dean is an "At 
Will" appointment. Compensation is comprised of a base salary and an 
administrative stipend. This position reports directly to the Dean of the 
SLIS.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Teach assigned graduate courses each semester, and carry out an 
appropriate level of research, publishing, advising, mentoring, grant, and 
fundraising activities;

Assist in managing the establishment of operational policies and 
procedures, and make necessary modifications based on analyses of 
operations, demographics, and other research information;

Assist in administering the SLIS student support services to ensure 
successful student outcomes such as retention, graduation, and placement.

Supervise enrollment process;

Assist in continuous development, implementation, and assessment of the 
SLIS's Strategic Plan, as well as the development of goals and objectives 
that guide the activities of the faculty and support staff;

Assist with faculty and staff development, budget analysis, external 
funding, and resource management;

Represent the SLIS at community and campus events, and in meetings with 
other institutions. Work cooperatively with members of the university 
community, General Administration, and corporate leaders to promote 
visibility and expansion of programs.

Minimum Education/Experience: Earned doctorate in library or information 
science or related discipline, and 10-15 years of experience in higher 
education; Strong academic record of successful research, teaching, and 
service. Credentials must support the rank of professor; Experience with 
the maintenance of ALA (or other) Accreditations; Expertise in curriculum 
design, delivery, implementation, and continuous assessment; Demonstrated 
commitment to cultural diversity and global education and the ability to 
work effectively in a team-oriented leadership setting; Ability to 
effectively lead faculty and staff, and to collaborate with individuals at 
all levels within the university community.
