Moving Image Digitization and Metadata Specialist:
Overview:
The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum seeks a project-based  Moving Image Digitization and Metadata Specialist to digitize the Bobby Bare and Friends collection, a collection of approximately 300 one inch type C open reel video tapes.  The goals of the project are to preserve and provide increased access to the Bobby Bare and Friends collection; to create, organize, and migrate metadata about the collection to a digital asset management system CONTENTdm; and to create a foundation for digital preservation for the Moving Image Archive.  The Moving Image Digitization and Metadata Specialist must have excellent technical knowledge of legacy video formats (with a focus on one inch materials), archival analog to digital workflows, basic editing techniques, and moving image metadata management.  The position requires operation of the BVH 2000 VTR and the ability to perform basic cleaning functions and troubleshooting for the equipment.  Training will be provided for some aspects of the technical work specific to this project, and a repair technician will aid in repair and equipment upkeep.  This project is supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Moving Image Digitization and Metadata Specialist:

Duties:
*             Work with CMF staff and project consultants to create a workflow for one inch open reel video digitization, batch processing of files, file storage, and metadata management.
*             Operate BVH 2000 VTR and Mac pro; adjust and set chroma and luminance levels using waveform monitor and vector scope.
*             Perform quality checks and control of newly-created files.
*             Perform and advise on basic cleaning, maintenance, and trouble-shooting of BVH 2000.
*             Upload metadata into DAM system.
*             Assist in creation of reports as required by granting agency and employer.
Requirements:
*             2 years minimum experience in digital preservation of legacy video formats for archival purposes (preferred).
*             Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution (preferred).
*             Bachelor's degree in related field; and Cataloging experience.
*             Experience with CONTENTdm or similar digital asset management system preferred.
*             Basic knowledge of country music and American vernacular music is preferred.
*             Excellent time management skills; ability to work efficiently with tight deadlines.
*             Applicant should be detail oriented and patient.
*             The ability to multi-task will be considered an asset.
*             Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

The goals of the project are to preserve and provide increased access to the Bob Pinson Recorded Sound Collection; to create, organize, and add metadata about the collection to a digital asset management system, CONTENTdm; and to create a foundation for digital preservation for the Recorded Sound Collection Archive. Training will be provided for some aspects of the technical work, and metadata capture and workflow specific to this project. This project is supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the humanities.

*             Auditioning audio to determine optimum playback;
*             Transfer of audio discs to digital preservation files;
*             Metadata capture and entry;
*             Creation of High-definition archival master files;
*             Creation and editing of lower resolution production files;
*             Batch conversion of files to mp3 access files;
*             Creating back-up safety files to LTO tape;
*             Re-housing original recordings for archival storage;
*             Assist in creation of reports as required by granting agency and employer.
Requirements:
*             Applicant must have basic knowledge of professional audio recording and editing software such as Cubase/ProTools/BiasPeak Studio and should be familiar with audio signal workflow and routing.
*             Experience in audio digitizing and reformatting is desired but not required.
*             Expertise in country music history is not a requirement, but some knowledge and respect of the genre is preferred.
*             Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution preferred.
*             Cataloging experience.
*             Ability to properly handle fragile and rare archival materials.
*             Experience with CONTENTdm or similar digital asset management system preferred.

Fabry, who ran a portrait studio in Nashville that catered to country music artists during the late 1940s through the early 1960s. The Fabry collection contains primarily 8 x 10 black and white negatives from the early 1950s to the mid-1960s and represents approximately 600 individuals or groups.  The goals of the project are to preserve and provide increased access to the Fabry Image collection; to create, organize, and migrate metadata about the collection to a digital asset management system, CONTENTdm; and to create a foundation for digital preservation for the Photo Collection Archive.  Training will be provided for some aspects of the technical work, and metadata capture and workflow specific to this project.  This project is supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
