ENGAGEMENT NEWS

1.      SWORPS Funding Renewed for Teen Outreach Program Evaluation
A few years ago, the Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority contacted the College of Social Work, Office of Research & Public Service (SWORPS) for help in evaluation of its Teen Outreach Program. Among SWORPS findings: students indicated a greater understanding of values, choices and their consequences, gender roles, the difference between love and infatuation and the dangers of drugs and alcohol abuse. SWORPS research staff have worked with the Authority and other non-profit agencies for many years, providing ongoing program evaluation services for their federally-funded projects.

2.       Alumni Gift Funds New Position for International Sustainable Agriculture

“The new faculty position will help bring science-based agricultural solutions to areas of the world with struggling agricultural practices and economies, as well as provide unique opportunities for the State of Tennessee,” said Larry Arrington, chancellor of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, when announcing the gift.
