Position Title:

IT Administrator II

General Description:

A member of the library Discovery & Technical Services (DTS) department this position serves as the lead developer and analyst for enterprise library systems that provide access to a wide variety of electronic resources including bibliographic databases, abstracts, and full-text journals and books.  Responsibilities included in this position:

 

This position is a primary liaison between DTS and the Licensing, Electronic Resources and Serials (LERS) department, as well as other staff who work with electronic resources.  In that capacity he or she develops software solutions to address specific needs and/or to improve workflow, as well as plans, evaluates and implements new systems to address same. Troubleshooting support for electronic resource access also falls under the purview of this position.

 

Responsibilities / Duties:

System Development and Maintenance                                                        80%

 

Link resolver software

·      Monitor vendor updates to the link resolver KnowledgeBase and software, including checks to maintain accurate link resolution.

·      Gather library subscription information from LERS staff; verify and maintain accurate holdings information in the link resolver KnowledgeBase.

·      Consult with vendor’s technical support staff to troubleshoot, improve software, and recommend updates to KnowledgeBase.

·      Coordinate improvements to presentation and use of this resource (e.g. e-journal web pages, access points in the discovery layer).

 

Remote access software

·      Apply proxy server software updates from vendor.

·      Maintain proxy server configurations for licensed electronic resources.

·      Consult with library and OIT staff to monitor and improve authentication needs and technologies.

 

Other

·      Develop and maintain web interfaces for presentation of electronic resources such as abstracting and indexing databases.

·      Assist in development of the library's discovery interface.

 

Consulting, Training, and Support                                                                  20%

 

·      Consultation across library departments to design and implement systems for improved electronic resources access and management.

·      Collaborate within committees and task forces to design services that meet the needs of library users

·      Prepare documentation to help with support of services.

·      Participate in support of critical services during off-hours.

 

Required Qualifications:

·      College degree or some college and equivalent computing experience.

·      Experience in an academic computing environment.

·      Knowledge of Unix and Windows operating system environments.

·      Excellent problem-solving skills, writing and oral communication skills.

·      Strong analytical abilities.

·      Ability to work independently on several projects at once.

·      Ability to work collaboratively.

·      Ability to learn and adapt new technologies.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·      Experience with systems and services for library resource management in an academic computing environment

·      Experience with web-based interface design

·      Experience with design and implementation of relational databases.
