Featured student: Gabriel Jose Valerio
Our student this week is
Gabriel Jose Valerio, at left in the adjacent photo. This mechanical engineering major accepted a co-op at DuPont, located in Houston, Texas.
Valerio describes the department he worked in and what his main responsibilities were.
"I worked on a chemical plant that focused on making Neoprene," said Valerio. "There are about four different departments, but the one I worked under is called DuPont Performance Polymers (DPP). My responsibilities included but were not limited to: collecting
nameplate data from machines, motors, and pumps; creating a vibration analysis database; and organizing different maintenance plans in order to increase uptime within the business."
Valerio made valuable connections during the co-op assignment.
"The overall experience was great and I made a spider web of a network," said Valerio. "Also I will be certified in a class that not a lot of college students can begin to appreciate. My experience has definitely been one for the books."
Students may read more about their peers' co-op experiences by logging into their Engineering Professional Practice profile via
www.coop.utk.edu, clicking "Resource Library" (on the left margin) and selecting "Students at Work–In Their Own Words." For information on engineering co-op and internships, contact
