LAC Group is seeking Data Migration Librarians for a 6-month contract working for our client, a prestigious organization located in Dublin, Ohio.  This is a remote position and  you will primarily participate in assisting OCLC member libraries with the migration of their data from their existing library management system to a new worldwide management system (WMS).   We are looking for exceptional candidates with previous experience working in the library industry, particularly with technical services and integrated library systems.   This This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position working with LAC Group on a 6 month contract.  

Responsibilities:

  • Primarily participate in assisting OCLC member libraries with the migration of their data from their existing library management system to WMS;
  • Educating member libraries on the WMS data migration service;
  • Documenting member library’s data migration needs and defining project scope;
  • Serving as central hub of communication between member library and data migration teams;
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements to the data migration process;
  • Participating in other implementation or customer support activities as needed;

 Qualifications:

  • Masters of Library Science Degree (MLIS);
  • 4-6 years’ experience working in the library industry;
  • Basic knowledge of library workflows and integrated library systems (ILS);
  • Strong knowledge of MARC cataloging standards and practices;
  • Experience managing projects (managing relationships; scheduling project plans; communicating clearly and professionally;
  • Experience producing high-quality deliverables (documents, analyses; project plans) in fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment;
  • Experience working collaboratively with several internal parties (development; product management; quality assurance; sales)
  • Superior communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Ability to think critically to solve problems;
  • Ability to proactively identify problems and opportunities and act upon them;
  • 4-6 years’ experience in Technical Services is a plus;

LAC Group is looking for an experienced Library Cataloger to complete a cataloging project in support of a digitization effort.   This position is located in Baltimore, MD and will be working with our client, a federal government agency, on a 9 month contract, with the possibility of extension.  This position works 32 hours per week.  Please see mandatory qualifications below and apply if interested:

  • A Master’s degree in Library and information Science from an institution accredited by the ALA;
  • At least two years of recent employment (within the last five years in a special library in a government, corporate, or non-profit setting in which the primary duties were cataloging (including original cataloging) and processing a variety of materials in hard copy and electronic formats;
  • Knowledge and experience with current cataloging practices using OCLC cataloging service. Experience with Connexion Client is required;
  • Proficiency and practical experience in library automation, library systems operations, and the use of an integrated library automation system for cataloging. Experience with the Innovative Interfaces Inc. Sierra system is desired;
  • Experience with the application of the most current update of the Cataloging Rules for descriptive cataloging, and with the Library of Congress Classification and Subject Headings;
  • Experience in cataloging public health literature, congressional reports, and legislative histories is highly desirable;
  • Capability of using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) or current versions of similar products;
  • Attention to detail and accurate data entry.
