Peggy L. Kaney of Tahlequah, Oklahoma was awarded the degree Doctor of Philosophy, Library and Information Management, at the May 2013 graduation ceremony. The title of Dr. Kaney’s dissertation is Representations of Disability in Youth Literature: A Discourse Analysis of Award Winning Books. Abdullahi I. Musa of Soba, Kanduna, Nigeria was awarded the degree Doctor of Philosophy, Library and Information Management, at the December 2013 graduation ceremony. The title of Dr. Musa’s research is Resistance to Polio Immunization Information in Kano, Nigeria. Dissertation committee members included Dr. Ronald Freeze, Dissertation Chair, Interim Chair and Associate Professor, School of Business, Emporia State University; Dr. Gwen Alexander, Dean and Associate Professor, School of Library and Information Management, Emporia State University; Dr. Mirah Dow, Associate Professor and Director Ph.D. Program, School of Library and Information Management, Emporia State University; and Dr. Andrew Smith, Interim Associate Dean and Associate Professor, School of Library and Information Management, Emporia State University.


Melissa A. Cast-Brede of Omaha, Nebraska was awarded the degree Doctor of Philosophy, Library and Information Management, at the December 2013 graduation ceremony. The title of Dr. Cast-Brede research is Academic Librarians’ Role in Gatekeeping: The Influence of Vendor Labeling on Academic Library Collections.
