Job description

Kelvin Smith Library (KSL) at Case Western Reserve University seeks imaginative, collaborative and dynamic candidates for the position of Head of Special Collections and Archives (HSCA). With visionary and strategic leadership the HSCA will lead the Scholarly Resources and Special Collections Team, which manages the library’s rare book, manuscript, and archival collections, and the analog and digital preservation services. Reporting to the Associate Director for Creation and Curation Services, the HSCA will take a leadership role in the oversight, curation and promotion of the University’s special collections and archives.

The Special Collections Research Center houses collections in several key areas: the History of the Book; European and American literature; History of Science; Fine Arts; and multiple collections of local interest, including the Ernst & Young Founder Archives, and The Cleveland Playhouse Archives. The University Archives include the combined archives of Case Institute of Technology and Western Reserve University, and are a rich source of material documenting CWRU’s development.

In partnership with the KSL leadership, the new HSCA will develop a new vision for special collections in the era of e-research and digital scholarship, and foster campus engagement to encourage a significant increase in use of the collections in teaching, learning and research.

Branch Libraries Manager
Microsoft Library is seeking a versatile and innovative information professional to lead the future direction of site library operations at Microsoft. In this role, you will manage two domestic branches and two international branches, implementing consistency in policies and service standards to ensure that employees receive exceptional service regardless of location. Core Responsibilities 

Library Operations: 

•Drive the future strategy for physical library operations and ensure there is a compelling vision for growth.
•Conceive, develop and implement innovative service offerings and programming for all library locations, incorporating Microsoft devices and services where feasible.
•Manage relationships with onsite and geographically-dispersed contractors to ensure consistency in acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, and reference operations in four locations.
•Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure a consistently high level of customer service.
•Manage the RFP process, working with representatives from Procurement and Legal to select the most appropriate vendor(s) for Redmond library operations. Negotiate annual contracts for individual contractors in branch locations.
•Accurately manage financial resources allocated to content acquisition and vendor support critical to project completion.
•Develop appropriate success metrics and use analytics to measure and track continual progress. Utilize analytics to inform business decisions and advocate for a change in program direction when necessary.

Content Management:

•Drive proactive collection development in the print, audio and e-book collections to ensure the business & technology collections remain relevant and align with Microsoft’s current business needs.
•Contribute expertise to the selection of electronic resources, and lead the renewal process (including contract negotiation) for a limited selection of resources ensuring all necessary documentation is accurately prepared and filed within deadline.
•Manage the RFP process to select the most suitable e-book provider(s). If necessary, participate in resource transition processes to ensure minimal disruption to our customers and to the business.
•Develop and drive marketing activities for a limited selection of resources, including writing original promotional content for distribution via email, blog, Yammer, and the library portal.
•Utilizing skills in user-centered design and user testing, design and implement a new user interface on the library portal to enable customers to find and download electronic books more easily.

Research:

•Utilize your extensive knowledge of business information resources to guide customers to the most relevant content available in addressing a wide range of information needs.
•Serve as second-in-command to the Research Lead, managing the research queue in the Lead’s absence.

Partnerships:

This role requires cross-group collaboration with internal partners, key customer groups, and teams with similar goals. The ability to build strong partnerships with colleagues inside and outside of the team is critical to business success.

•Serve as an ambassador for Microsoft Library by developing close partnerships with key internal groups. As an embedded partner, you will promote all areas of the Library business, increasing awareness and utilization of library services, and enhancing the library’s reputation within the company.
•Participate in customer training opportunities and internal event management, which may include public speaking engagements, intense periods of customer contact, and interaction with high-level executives.

Other:

•Responsible for remaining current on technological applications and best practices relevant to the provision of sophisticated library services. 
•Occasional travel is required to build and maintain strong relationships with current site library partners in California, India and China, with the potential for additional locations.

Required Qualifications
This position requires:
Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science 
At least 5 years’ experience in site library management (branch management)
At least 2 years’ experience conducting business research
At least 2 years’ experience managing print and/or electronic content from third party providers
