Hi All,



This position is supposed to be assigned to The Brentwood Library as our IT
Tech Liaison with the City IT Department.  Please be aware that the IT
Department Head would be the person the candidate would directly report.
For the specifics of what would be associated with the position when
working on library related tasks, please note in red:



The position serves as a bridge between IT and Library Departments to
assist library staff in their technology requests and problem resolutions.
These requests may be related to maintenance and/or modifications of
existing operations; or an initiative for the implementation of new systems
and problem resolution.  He/she is responsible for tracking and driving
applications problems to resolution, by clarifying business requirements,
providing consultation for alternative solutions, participating in various
project phases in accordance with a tracking system, coordinating
inter-team activities, participating in issues resolution determination and
facilitating meetings between the library and IT.



He/she should be familiar with library software, especially integrated
library systems, such as Polaris, problem-solving skills when integrating
third party software;  SIP 2 knowledge; proxy systems; data
inter-operability; and should understand the City and Library mission.

*Purpose of Job*

 The purpose of this job is to maintain the City’s computer network and
resolve computer network problems to provide effective and efficient
systems to users. Work is performed under limited supervision and includes
performing highly responsible network administration functions and
utilizing specialized skills and technical knowledge in achieving the
department’s goals.

 *Essential Duties and Responsibilities*

*The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be
construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and
assigned.*

 Serves as a Microsoft network technician.

 Performs various duties relating to servers, including setting up new
users, permissions, login scripts; performs database management functions,
adding and deleting files, routers troubleshooting, DHCP management, DNS
management, active directory management and working with Group Policy
Objects, working on wireless networks, network security, anti-virus
management, website maintenance, network-wide data backup and recovery,
troubleshoots and resolves problems.

 Stays current on changing technology and equipment as they affect City
operations.

 Regulates access to network resources, monitors access, and assigns access
privileges.

 Installs specified software packages such as network operating systems,
Microsoft Office, electronic mail, and other networking software.

 Installs and maintains network and components and sub-systems including
cable plant, switches, routers, bridges, repeaters, and servers for maximum
performance and security.

 Performs duties relating to server hierarchy, WANs, LANs, Remote Access
Service (RAS), workstation configuration; troubleshoots and resolves
problems.

 Performs various functions related to tracking and maintaining the City’s
personal computer equipment, providing a variety of computer hardware and
software support services to end users for the operation of personal
computer and peripheral equipment. Acts as a front line interface to users,
accepting trouble reports and resolving them.

 Assists users by training them in simple functions to use hardware and
software that are part of the network.

 Assists in the maintenance of all telecommunications equipment and
voice-mail.

 Assists departments and Information Technology Coordinator with assessing
user work needs in order to recommend the most appropriate hardware,
software and network configuration.

 Maintains network connectivity for LAN and WAN users on PCs and other
peripherals.

 *Additional Job Functions*

 *Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job
Functions*

 High school diploma (or GED) required, Associates degree in computer
science/technology preferred; 3-5 years information technology/network
administration required; MCP certification required with MCSE certification
preferred. Valid TN driver’s license required.

*TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS*

 *PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:* Must be physically able to operate a variety of
automated office machines which includes a computer, printer, typewriter,
facsimile machine, copy machine, calculator, telephone, etc. Must be able
to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must be
able to stoop, bend and maneuver in small areas. Must be able to exert up
to fifty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to twenty-five pounds of
force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for
sedentary to medium work.

 *DATA CONCEPTION:* Requires the ability to compare and or judge the
readily observable functional, technical, structural, or compositional
characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of
data, people, or things.

 *INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION:* Requires the ability of speaking and/or
signaling people to convey or exchange administrative information. Includes
giving assignments and/or directions to co-workers or assistants.

 *LANGUAGE ABILITY:* Requires the ability to read a variety of technical
documentation, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures related
to the job of Computer/Network Technician I. Requires the ability to speak
with and before others with poise, voice control, and confidence using
correct English and a well-modulated voice.

 *INTELLIGENCE:* Requires the ability to learn and understand basic to
complex principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence
of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to the job of
Computer/Network Technician I.

*VERBAL APTITUDE:* Requires the ability to record and deliver information
to supervisors, employees and members of the public; to explain procedures
and policies; and to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and
objectives.

 *NUMERICAL APTITUDE:* Requires the ability to utilize mathematical
formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; determine
percentages; determine time and weight; and utilize statistical inference.

 *FORM/SPATIAL APTITUDE:* Requires the ability to inspect items for proper
length, width, and shape, visually with office equipment.

 *MOTOR COORDINATION:* Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in
using automated office equipment.

 *MANUAL DEXTERITY:* Requires the ability to handle a variety of items,
office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have the ability to
use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand
with different activities. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot
coordination.

 *COLOR DISCRIMINATION:* May require the ability to differentiate colors
and shades of color.

 *INTERPERSONAL TEMPERAMENT:* Requires the ability to deal with people
(i.e. staff, supervisors, general public, and officials) beyond giving and
receiving instructions such as in interpreting departmental policies and
procedures. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when
confronted with an emergency related to the job of Computer/Network
Technician I.

 *PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION:* Requires the ability to talk and/or hear:
(talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words).
(Hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear).

 *KNOWLEDGE OF JOB*

Has general knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the
City and Technology Department practices as they pertain to the performance
of duties relating to the job of Computer/Network Technician I. Has general
knowledge of Technology Department practices as necessary in the completion
of daily responsibilities. Assists in defining objectives for the
expedience and effectiveness of specific duties of the department. Knows
how to keep abreast of any changes in policy, methods, computer operations,
equipment needs, etc. as they pertain to departmental operations and
activities. Is able to effectively communicate and interact with
supervisors, members of the general public and all other groups involved in
the activities of the department. Is able to assemble information and make
written reports and documents in a concise, clear and effective manner. Has
good organizational, human relations, and technical skills. Is able to use
independent judgment and work with little direct supervision when
necessary. Has the ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations,
procedures, and related information. Has general knowledge of the
terminology, principles, and methods utilized within the department. Has
the mathematical ability to handle required calculations.
