Top Ten Things to Know about the Campus Libraries

The end of the semester is approaching and winter break is on the horizon. You'll probably be spending more time at the library preparing for end-of-the-semester tests and papers. As finals approach, make sure to check out the top ten things you should know about the libraries.


Want to Be a Speaker at Fall 2013 Commencement?

The Office of the Chancellor is accepting entries from students who would like to speak at the fall 2013 commencement ceremony on December 13. You must be receiving your bachelor’s degree in the fall 2013 semester. You may submit your commencement speech for consideration by 5:00 p.m. November 18. Learn more about the competition here.

Name UT's Newest and Oldest Vol, the Edmontosaurus

Have you met UT's newest and oldest Vol on campus? Help name the new dinosaur on display in front of the McClung Museum. Submit your favorite names by tomorrow. 



Percentage Night Benefits Knoxville Habitat for Humanity

UT's Habitat for Humanity is partnering with Lil' Vinnie's in the Old City to host a percentage night, where a portion of all sales will be donated to Knoxville Habitat for Humanity from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. tonight. There will also be a silent auction next door at Carleo's from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. 


Donate during RecSports Food Drive Challenge against Kentucky

RecSports has been challenged by the University of Kentucky Campus Rec to a friendly food drive competition to benefit God's Pantry and the Second Harvest Food Bank through the end of November. Donate canned goods and nonperishable items at collection bins in TRECS, the Student Aquatic Center, UC, Hodges Library, and all residence halls.


Geography Research Symposium Call for Papers and Posters

The Department of Geography will host a research symposium in February 2014 with presentations on geography and related fields. The department is currently accepting abstracts for papers from graduate students and posters from undergraduates.

Office of National Scholarships and Fellowships Tips Over Tea

Tips Over Tea, a bimonthly forum hosted by the Office of National Scholarships and Fellowships, will take place from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. tomorrow in Howard H. Baker Jr. Center Room 118. Tomorrow's forum will discuss expectations, funding, and the planning process for graduate school. 


UT Commission for Blacks Hosts Panel Discussion

The UT Commission for Blacks will host a panel on "Engaging your City: Retention of African-Americans in Knoxville" at noon on Tuesday, November 12. Guest panelists will include Mayor Madeline Rogero, community developer Buzz Goss, UT Vice Chancellor for Diversity Rickey Hall, and Knoxville Area Urban League President Phyllis Nichols.

Volunteers Needed at the Green Hills Learning Center

Volunteers are needed to assist children with tutoring and homework, lead and participate in recreational activities, and work special events. Contact Kimberly Fowler.

Buggy Buffet: Insect Smorgasbord

Looking for a tasty yet unusual afternoon snack? You’re invited to dine on a delicious array of insects and bugs! Chefs from the UT Institute of Agriculture’s Entomology and Plant Pathology Department will prepare and serve a number of dishes featuring insects as the main course. 


SGA Presents: Homecoming Campus Cleanup

Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Circle Park
The Homecoming Campus Cleanup will focus on picking up waste and recyclables from Homecoming events around the Fraternity Park and Lake Avenue areas. Free pizza and prizes will be given after the cleanup. 


Confessions of a Political Consultant: Party Committees, PACS, and the Negative Ads We All Secretly Love

Monday, 3:00 p.m., Toyota Auditorium, Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy
Zack Condry, a political consultant with the DC-based Prosper Group, will discuss the increasing role of party committees and PACS in American elections as well as the occasionally frantic life of a political consultant. Condry has consulted on a wide variety of state, local, and national campaigns.
