Responsibilities include administration and teaching in the ALA-accredited Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) Program. The position is 12-month, tenure-track. Valdosta State University has offered the MLIS degree since June 2001. The program is entirely web-based, with a current enrollment of 240 students. The selected department chair will be deeply involved in program planning for a growing and innovative curriculum. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience or demonstrated potential in strategic planning and program management * Familiarity with program assessment based on student learning outcomes * The vision to guide curriculum toward expanded recognition and inclusion of 21st century LIS technologies * The ability to create productive partnerships across disciplinary and organizational boundaries * Familiarity with distance learning and online course delivery systems * A commitment and ability to recruit and maintain a well-qualified, diverse student body * Dynamic leadership abilities with an understanding of, and appreciation for, faculty mentoring * Experience teaching diverse students in an online, distance education environment * Excellent communication skills Essential duties: * Administration * Teaching * Faculty Mentoring * Preparation of administrative reports for internal and external accreditation purposes Three references are required.
