 Symposium on Diversity in LIS Education to be Held April 11, 2014

The University of Maryland's College of Information Studies, Maryland's iSchool and the Information Policy and Access Center (iPAC) will host the Symposium on Diversity in LIS Education on April 11, 2014, at the University of Maryland, College Park campus. This event is free and open to the public, and it is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

The symposium will bring together information professionals and researchers to focus on preparing all LIS students to be ready to design and deliver inclusive services to diverse populations in the information age. This year's Symposium will focus on issues of Advocacy, Outreach, and Inclusion. Talks and panels will include discussions of a range of initiatives at LIS programs, libraries, and government agencies.

Keynote speakers and special events include:

  *   Samantha Hastings, Director and Professor, School of Library and Information Science, University of South Carolina
  *   Denice Adkins, Associate Professor at the School of Information Science and Learning Technologies, University of Missouri, and President of REFORMA
  *   Presentation of the 2014 James Partridge Outstanding African American Information Professional Award
