Wayne T. Davis Endowed Dean's Chair in Engineering announced
On October 4, 2013, during the 175 Years of Engineering at the University of Tennessee Celebration Gala, John D. Tickle, a UT industrial engineering alumnus and primary donor for the John D. Tickle Engineering Building, announced the establishment of the Wayne T. Davis Endowed Dean's Chair in Engineering, a new $3 million endowment fund that will enable UT's current dean, Wayne T. Davis—for whom it is named—to propel the College of Engineering forward in exciting new directions.
On October 24, 2013, almost 1,000 students from forty-two different high schools (and some home schoolers) traveled to UT's Knoxville campus to explore and learn about the various aspects of engineering through discussions, project demonstrations, and exhibits prepared by UT engineering student clubs and societies.
The Women in EECS at UT partnered with Lean In and the Anita Borg Institute (ABI) to launch the new Circles Community at the Grace Hopper Conference in Minneapolis on October 3, 2013. Circles are small peer groups that meet regularly— in person or online—to learn and share information.
At UT’s Transportation Systems Laboratory (TSL), Dr. Lee Han, professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and his research team continually test, compile data, and develop multiple models in preparation for everything from everyday traffic congestion to extreme emergency management.
