Don't miss this presentation by Dr. E. William Colglazier, Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary of State and former UT Physics professor and director of the Energy, Environment and Resources Center (1983-91). Dr. Colglazier will speak on science and diplomacy, sponsored by the Office of Research and Engagement and the Baker Center. Science and technology have become even more important assets for diplomacy. Nearly every country has been convinced that it must engage on a world-class level in science and technology and become more innovative in this highly competitive and interconnected world. As a consequence, science diplomacy becomes an important mechanism to help build more knowledge and innovation- based societies and to help spread scientific values, including meritocracy and transparency, that support democracy. Dr. Colglazier is the former Executive Officer of the National Academy of Sciences and National Research Council (1994-2011) as well. The program is free and open to the public. Students interested in science policy and diplomacy are highly encouraged to attend!
