Just a reminder that at 10 am this morning (Nov. 4), Oak Ridge National Lab is launching a new lecture series "Wigner Distinguished Lecture Series in Science, Technology and Policy." The first speaker is 2007 Nobel Laureate in Physics, Dr. Albert Fert. He will speak in Oak Ridge with a live webcast to the Toyota Auditorium, Baker Center. Dr. Fert will speak at 10 am on "Novel Directions for Spintronics: Spin-orbitronics and Skyrmions." He is the scientific director of the Unite Mixte de Physique CNRS/Thales, a member of the French Academy of Sciences, with research focuses in metals, magnetism, magnet structures, and spin electronics. His discovery of the giant magnetoresistence earned the Nobel Prize and launched the field of spintronics, revolutionizing the electronics industry. Friday, Nov. 8, Dr. Peter Diamond @ Noon in the Toyota Auditorium. Dr. Diamond is a 2010 Nobel Laureate in Economics. He will address labor market issues and the economy.
