POSITION:  Multimedia Librarian

DIVISION:  Academic Affairs

DEPARTMENT:  Learning Resources Center (Library)

WORK SCHEDULE:  8:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m.; required to work at least one weekend per month;  if deemed necessary, one night per week; 12 month; non-tenure track position

SALARY:  Commensurate with experience

REPORTS TO:  Library Director

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The Multimedia Librarian will be responsible for a wide range of activities related to the effective and efficient management of the library’s media center. The selectee plans, develops, coordinates, manages, implements, and promotes media services and programs for the College in support of its academic curriculum and accrediting programs. The selectee works with faculty across disciplines in evaluating, recommending, selecting, and acquiring media resources in varied formats (i.e., CDs, DVDs, videos, audio, steaming video collections, etc.) The selectee effectively operates various types of media equipment and instructs/trains students, faculty, and staff on the appropriate use of specialized media equipment and/or technology.

Other responsibilities include: videotapes and/or records selected College events (i.e., convocations, coronation, programs, etc.) as specified; establishes and maintains contact with media distributors/vendors for procurement of resources and equipment; establishes policies and procedures for the use of media resources, equipment, and space; maintains an accurate inventory of media equipment; prepares and submits usage data, inventory count, or required reports; supervises and trains College work-study students and/or volunteers; assists at the Library’s information service desk; participates in and contributes to appointed College and assigned Library committees; keeps abreast of trends and emerging media technology; maintains memberships in professional organization; attends local, state, and national professional meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·      Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited library program or a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology

·      Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing

·      Experience and extensive knowledge of various types of media equipment and non-print media resources

·      Demonstrated skills and knowledge on how to set up and operate various types of media equipment

·      Ability to effectively train students/faculty on the use of specialized equipment and/or technology

·      Knowledge and the ability to review, select, and acquire media materials for instructional purposes and for the development of a non-print media collection which sufficiently supports the College’s various academic programs

·      Ability to effectively organize, coordinate, and manage the daily operations of a media center

·      Knowledge and the ability to videotape and/or record selected College events (i.e., convocations, coronation, programs, etc.) as specified

·      Ability to reasonably lift, pull or push media equipment/objects (less than 30 pounds)

·      Ability to establish and maintain collegial working relationships with librarians,  faculty, students, staff, and media vendors/distributors

·      Ability to appropriately assist faculty with media technology and its integration into the classroom

·      Familiarity with an integrated library management system and general office software

·      Ability to effectively supervise and train students or adult volunteers

·      Ability to keep abreast of trends and emerging media technology
