Digital Youth Tenure Track Faculty Position

Expanding research and academic programs focused on children, tweens, and teens is a strategic priority of the University of Washington’s Information School. We seek a visionary individual who bridges a rich understanding of youth with the opportunities and challenges of life in a digital society. This individual should have a strong commitment to excellence in both research and teaching and should be excited by and able to thrive in an intellectually stimulating multi-disciplinary environment.

Candidates from all areas related to children and adolescents in a digital society and allied fields are encouraged to apply. Specializations of particular interest include:

 Multicultural and global aspects of youth in a digital society.

 Social media, social computing, and converging technologies for reading, writing, creativity, information problem-solving, collaboration and other 21st century literacies.

 Informal and formal information behavior in a digital culture.

 Resource evaluation, traditional and 21st century, in a digital environment. .

 Implications of digital life for youth including brain, cognitive, ethical, and social development.

 Digital storytelling and games for learning.

 Youth and adult co-design of youth-related products and services, design research, policy initiatives, and other innovative approaches to investigation.

The Information School is ranked #2 in the US News & World Report rankings for Children and Youth Services. Our new colleague will join a growing, broad-based, inclusive information school. Faculty members teach across programs. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. Candidates should show a commitment to bridging research and practice. This is a full-time 9 month appointment anticipated at the rank of Assistant Professor. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree by date of appointment.
