________________________________

Due to a bug in our current version of the Blackboard Learn software, the Statistics Tracking function has been disabled system-wide. Many of you know that Statistics Tracking is a feature that allows instructors to view detailed statistics on content item usage at the course level for all course users. Unfortunately, this feature is unavailable until May when we complete a major system upgrade.

We are also aware that blank instructor emails are being sent from within the Grade Center. These e-mails contain only the subject line and any attachments. Please note that this is an error specific to the email tool in the Full Grade Center. The email tool in your course menu or Control Panel will function normally and send entire messages to all recipients. This issue will be corrected in the May system upgrade.

________________________________

Qualtrics Research Suite, a powerful online survey research tool, is now free to all faculty, staff and students. After creating a Qualtrics account, you can design simple to complex surveys in a web browser, distribute the surveys, run frequencies as they continue to collect data, then download your data. For in-depth analysis, you can export your data to an SPSS, CSV, TXT or Excel file. A basic account is available to all faculty, staff and students for university-related work such as instructional or academic research projects and for administrative purposes. Create a new account or migrate a currently existing account<https://oit.utk.edu/research/websurveys/Pages/default.aspx>.

Need help? OIT Research is available to review your surveys to ensure that they are optimized for data collection on the web. It also offers workshops<https://workshop.utk.edu/workshopinfo.php?workshop=63> and can provide one-on-one overviews of the software and assistance in building complex surveys. When you create an account, it will be a Basic Account. For an Advanced Account, or to request an appointment for assistance, call the OIT Helpdesk at 974-9900 or complete the OIT HelpDesk Contact Form<http://remedy.utk.edu/contact/>.

Ongoing projects using our older web survey tool, SPSS Data Collection Web Interviews (formerly called mrInterview), will remain available until December 31, 2014. Any new surveys should be built in Qualtrics.

________________________________

Do you want to convey complex ideas in a short amount of time, appeal to both visual and auditory learners, and add drama and interest to your presentations? Faculty, staff, and students have a golden opportunity to learn about Prezi, and to use it to its best advantage.

OIT is now offering two types of Prezi workshops throughout the fall semester. One is for faculty, and features Prezi as a non-linear method of presenting processes, concepts, metaphors, and more. The other type of Prezi workshop is focused on helping students learn a new way to create presentations, and is conducted by Collin Furniss<mailto:[log in to unmask]>, a UTK student and our ambassador from Prezi headquarters. Your students can register for a Prezi workshop led by Collin via OIT’s workshop registration system, or you can contact Collin to request a Prezi demonstration during your class. Now’s the time to get to know Prezi and determine how it may help you achieve your instructional goals.

AMOS (Analysis of Moment Structures)

AMOS software from SPSS analyzes Structural Equations Models (SEM), either by drawing a path diagram or via a command language. These models are also known as confirmatory factor analysis, analysis of covariance structures, path analysis, or causal modeling.

AMOS is available for download from the OIT Software Distribution site<https://web.dii.utk.edu/softwaredistribution/> (after logging in, scroll down to SPSS and click to select, then chose SPSS Amos 20 for Windows), and it is also available on Apps@UT<https://apps.utk.edu/vpn/index.html>. OIT Research offers full support for Amos. To learn AMOS, we recommend working through the examples of the excellent AMOS User’s Guide, which is on reserve in Hodges Library. Tutorials for specific types of AMOS problems, such as multi-group and nested models, are located at the Division of Statistics + Scientific Computation<http://ssc.utexas.edu/software/faqs/amos>.

________________________________

OIT continually encourages the use of technology in the classroom. To assist, OIT now offers an iPad Loan program through which faculty members can borrow one iPad for up to four weeks to determine if it would be useful in meeting the instructional goals of their courses. A faculty member may borrow 5-20 iPads for up to four weeks if they will be used by students to meet course objectives. Please request iPads at least two weeks before needed.

For faculty who are new to the iPad, OIT offers training on iPad operation and explains how it can be a valuable tool in teaching.

Access the iPad workshop schedule<https://workshop.utk.edu/search.php?q=iPad&area_id=6>

Request iPad(s) or get additional information<https://oit.utk.edu/instructional/tools/ipad/Pages/default.aspx>
