Greetings All -

Originally, our plan was to camp at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park Friday and Saturday, October 18-19 and do a day hike on Saturday to the Hensley Settlement on top of Cumberland Mountain. However, it appears that the federal government shut down may keep us from that Park.

In fact, camping at most state parks that weekend is now out as well. I checked a few and they were all booked!

So, plan B next week if Cumberland Gap doesn't re-open will be to just do a hike at Virgin Falls Pocket Wilderness Area on Saturday.

This is one of my top 5 hikes in the state and it is not to be missed if you enjoy waterfalls and/or karst. It is a moderately strenuous 8 mile hike into and out of the Caney Fork river gorge.

Info on Virgin Falls can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott's_Gulf

Please RSVP directly back to me at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> if you wish to receive updates on the trip.

Thanks -

Kurt Butefish
