3:30 - 5 pm - Baker Forum on Energy & the Environment:  Dr. JB Ruhl, 
Vanderbilt Law, will present a talk on Environmental Law as part of this 
continuing forum on energy and environmental policy topics.

6 - 7:30 pm  "Emerging Challenges to US and Global Security:  a panel 
discussion"

The UT Department of Political Science and the Howard H. Baker Jr Center for 
Public Policy will be sponsoring the annual meeting of the Peace Science 
Society (International) October 24-26 at the Hilton downtown. The conference 
will bring scholars from all over the world to Knoxville to discuss research 
relating to the causes and consequences of violent political conflict. On 
Thursday, October 24th,  a roundtable discussion will be held at the Baker 
Center from 6:00-7:30 pm on emerging security threats to the US and global 
community. This event will be open to the public. Scholars and topics include:

Professor David Brule (Purdue University) - The implications of U.S. military 
interventions
Professor Susan Allen (University of Mississippi) - The security implications of 
underdevelopment and inequality
Professor Victor Asal (SUNY Albany) - The challenges of terrorist violence
Professor Matthew Fuhrmann (Texas A&M) - The threat posed by nuclear 
proliferation
Professor Krista Wiegand (Georgia Southern) - How territorial conflicts affect 
U.S. foreign policy
Professor Sara Mitchell (University of Iowa) - The security challenges of 
environmental degradation
