Featured co-op student: Corey Stancombe

[Corey Stancombe]Our student this week is Corey Stancombe, shown at right, a mechanical engineering major, who accepted a co-op at Duke Energy Corporation located in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Stancombe describes the department he worked in and what his main responsibilities were.

“I worked in the monitoring and diagnostics department," he said. "My responsibilities included using advanced pattern recognition technology to monitor plants rotating equipment. We would create models for each piece of equipment with an assortment of points. Then monitor them throughout the week to make sure there were no issues coming up that the plants had not noticed.”

Stancombe received valuable benefits from his co-op assignment. “It helped me understand what an engineer does in the real world, and helped me identify where I want to go and do when I get out of school," he said. "It’s a great opportunity!”

Students may read more about their peers' co-op experiences by logging into their Engineering Professional Practice profile via www.coop.utk.edu<http://www.coop.utk.edu>, clicking “Resource Library” (on the left margin) and selecting “Students at Work–In Their Own Words.” For information on engineering co-op and internships, contact [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> or 865-974-5323.
