Clemson University Libraries seeks an innovative professional to work with a 
team of vibrant library faculty and staff to lead and transform Clemson’s Special 
Collections Library. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Head, Special 
Collections Library (HSCL) will create a clear vision for special collections at 
Clemson by developing and implementing priorities and establishing long-term 
plans for the unit. The HSCL has responsibility for growing the collections, 
expanding access pathways, securing the preservation of materials, and 
enhancing in-person service, outreach activities, and online presence.  The 
HSCL actively cultivates growth of the collections through concentrated donor 
solicitation initiatives.  The HSCL serves as a member of the library’s senior 
management team responsible for policy, planning, and overall direction of the 
libraries, and manages proactive development of initiatives both within the unit 
and across units to facilitate library goals and objectives.  This is a 12-month 
tenure-track position with faculty rank and status.  

Qualifications: Required						
•	ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent degree.
•	Five years of library experience in positions of increasing responsibility in 
        special collections.  
•	Capable of articulating and representing the library’s vision and mission 
        internally, and to the university community and beyond. Ability to serve
        as a proactive collaborator across units and within the university 
        community.
•	Demonstrated experience in oversight of manuscripts, and University 
        Archives, rare books and in best practices for Special Collections in 
        academic libraries.  
•	Supervisory responsibilities in one or more previous positions.  
•	Ability to collaborate with diverse groups and communicate ideas 
        effectively.
•	Knowledge of the latest technology applications in the special collections
        environment.

Preferred:
•	Understanding of the evolving nature of academic scholarship, and library
        programmatic support of these efforts.
•	Knowledge of, or experience with, managing born-digital source material.
•	Evidence of, or potential for, professional and/or scholarly activity.
