Welcome to Dr. Alon Friedman who joins the School of Information beginning fall 2013 as an Assistant Professor. He earned his PhD in Information Studies from Long Island University, Palmer School. He also holds a BS and an MS in Journalism and Mass Media from the University of Florida. His research interests include data and knowledge visualization, visual data mining, statistical analysis, concept mapping methodology, language and semiotics, and content and conceptual analysis. Dr. Friedman also brings professional experience in consulting, web and software development, statistical analysis, graphics, and computer programming to complement his teaching and research. 

 

Denise Shereff, MLIS, joins the School of Information as an Academic Services Coordinator. Denise comes to us from the University of South Florida College of Medicine Pediatrics Epidemiology Center (PEC) where she served as their Health Information and Communications Officer. She will facilitate distance learning support, accreditation and assessment, and marketing, communications, and recruiting functions. Denise has been teaching Consumer Health Information Sources and Services as an adjunct instructor at the University of South Florida’s School of Information since 2009. She completed the National Library of Medicine Spring 2010 fellowship program in BioMedical Informatics at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Prior to earning her MLIS from the University of South Carolina, Denise worked as a school media specialist and a reference librarian in an academic setting. She taught middle and high school foreign languages and edited foreign language textbooks. She was also a virtual reference librarian and served as the Director of Ask A Librarian for Tutor.com.

 

We are also pleased to host two visiting scholars for the academic year 2013-2014.

 

Dr. Eunkyung Chung is a visiting scholar from the Department of Library and Information Science at the Ewha Womans University, Seoul Korea, where she is an Assistant Professor.  Dr. Chung received her PhD in Information Science from University of North Texas, where she also earned an M.S. in computer science. Her MLIS and BA are from Ewha Womans University, Seoul, Korea. Her research has focused on the areas of multimedia information retrieval and informetrics and knowledge structure.

 

Dr. Jin Zou joins us from the department of Information Management, Central China Normal University, Wuhan, Hubei, China where she is a lecturer of information science. Central China Normal University is a key comprehensive university directly under the administration of the Chinese ministry of education. Her research interests focus on information services. She received a PhD from the School of Information Management, Wuhan University, where she also earned a Master’s in Library Science.
