Estimate Models Containing Latent or Unobserved Variables

Mplus is a latent variable modeling program capable of many types of analyses, including analysis of Structural Equations Models (SEM) that can include both continuous and categorical latent constructs. As its web site<http://www.statmodel.com/index.shtml> states, Mplus can also analyze both cross-sectional and longitudinal data, single-level and multilevel data, and data that come from different populations with either observed or unobserved heterogeneity.

Analyses can be performed for observed variables that are continuous, censored, binary, ordered categorical (ordinal), unordered categorical (nominal), counts, or combinations of these variable types.

Click here for SEM information<http://www2.gsu.edu/~mkteer/semnet.html>. To learn Mplus, we recommend the program's help files. RCS offers Minimal Support for this package. Mplus is available only on apps.utk.edu<https://apps.utk.edu/vpn/index.html> where one person at a time can run it. [http://itc2.utk.edu/newsletter_monthly/2013_06/mplus.jpg]

OIT Staff and “Online Instructor Toolkit” Can Help

You may be planning a flipped classroom this fall where you provide your students recordings and they come to class prepared to discuss what they learned; or, perhaps, you are planning a blended course with learning requirements to be met both online and in the classroom. In fact, a fully online course may be your goal!

If your plans include any of these scenarios, please refer to OIT’s Online Instructor Toolkit’s “Teaching Tools: Course Content”<https://oit.utk.edu/instructional/strategies/toolkit/tools/Pages/teachingTools.aspx>; or contact OIT<http://remedy.utk.edu/contact/> for assistance in recording lectures.

________________________________

Recently, Internet Explorer 10 presented compatibility issues with certain websites that were not designed to render properly beyond IE9.

While websites catch up with the changes implemented in IE 10, you may want to use a different browser; or, if you are using Windows 7, you may roll back from version 10 to version 9 by uninstalling the automatic update.

To uninstall the update:

  1. Click the Start button; then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs and Features.
NOTE: If you have trouble finding “Programs and Features”, type the words in the Search box at the top, right side of the page, then press “Enter”.
  3. From the panel on the left, click View installed updates.
  4. Within the Microsoft Windows category, find Microsoft Internet Explorer 10, then click to select it.
  5. Click Uninstall on the blue bar above the list of updates.
NOTE: If you have difficulty finding “Uninstall” in the list, use the Search Installed Updates bar at the top of the page to find it faster.

The uninstall process usually takes a while to complete. It is strongly recommended that you do not cancel or stop the process.

When the process is complete, reboot your computer to complete the removal of IE10 and restoration of IE9. Automatic Updates will no longer try to update Internet Explorer.
