Music Cataloger:  Center for Popular Music (MTSU)

 

 

This is a temporary, hourly music cataloger position available from 1 September 2013 through 30 August 2014.  Salary:  Up to $16.65/hour, depending upon qualifications. 

 

The successful candidate will serve as the cataloging librarian for the Center for Popular Music research collection, which contains over one million archive items, including 100,000 pieces of sheet music, 200,000 sound recordings, over 20,000 books, photographs, posters, trade catalogs, and other materials. Primary responsibilities will include: original and copy cataloging of reading room books, rare materials, sound recordings, and sheet music; perform physical processing and repair of materials per protocol; provide occasional reference services to Center patrons.

 

Minimum knowledge required: familiarity with principles and practices of cataloging and other metadata standards, including AACR2, RDA, MARC, LCSH, and LC classification; principles of library/archival database software (the Center uses Inmagic DB/Text) and other general utility applications (Innovative Interfaces ILS, OCLC Connexion, Word, Excel); library/archive policies, procedures, methods, ethics, and professional standards; proper care and handling of fragile archival items.

 

Masters in Library/Information Science preferred.
