Drexel iSchool Alumni named to American Library Association Stonewall Book Awards Committee

Two graduates of Drexel University's iSchool, College of Information Science and Technology have been named to the American Library Association Stonewall Book Awards Committee:


*         Peter Coyl, Branch Manager with the Dallas Public Library was named as Chair for the 2014 awards; he will serve as Past-Chair for the 2015 awards.  He earned his MS in Library and Information Science in 2010.



*         Joel Nichols, Branch Manager with the Free Library of Philadelphia was appointed to the committee for a 2 year term.  He earned his MS in Library and Information Science in 2008.


The Stonewall Book Awards are given to books of exceptional merit relating to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender experience. Three awards are given: the Barbara Gittings Literature Award, the Israel Fishman Non-Fiction Award, and the Mike Morgan & Larry Romans Children's & Young Adult Literature Award.  First awarded in 1971, the Stonewall Book Awards are the oldest award given for GLBT literature.  Given under the auspices of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Roundtable, the Stonewall Book Awards are official awards of the American Library Association.

The winners of the 2014 Stonewall Book Awards will be announced at the American Library Association's Midwinter Meeting to be held January 24-28, 2014 in Philadelphia.
