Drexel University’s iSchool Introduces New Certificate in Cybersecurity, Law & Policy

PHILADELPHIA (May 16, 2013)—Drexel University’s iSchool, College of Information Science and Technology has announced a new Certificate in Cybersecurity, Law and Policy to be offered in its fall 2013 professional development curriculum.

The three-course, online certificate will offer the fundamentals on cybersecurity, policy and issues of cyber law, and is the first of its kind in examining technical and policy issues under one umbrella, while looking at today’s issues in cybersecurity.

The Certificate in Cybersecurity, Law and Policy joins the iSchool’s existing professional development programs including a Certificate in Healthcare Informatics, Advanced Certificate in Information Studies and Technology (ACIST), Post-Master’s Study Program, and Post-Master's Specialist Program (with specializations in Archival Studies, Competitive Intelligence and Knowledge Management, School Library Media, Digital Libraries, and Youth Services).

The Certificate program is intended for legal policy and technology professionals who want to bridge the gap between technology and the laws that govern cybersecurity.

As the world grows more technologically dependent—especially with the use of cloud technology—the threat is growing for attacks against cyber infrastructure.

“Governmental and corporate entities are becoming increasingly reliant on specialists to interpret the legalities and policies to protect information in a number of areas such as healthcare, research and development, and finance. The iSchool is proud to offer this Certificate to give professionals working in a technical or legal setting the edge they need to assess and protect data security,” says iSchool Dean David Fenske.

Courses in the Certificate program include overviews of the principles of cybersecurity, cyber-computer crime law, and cybersecurity, law and policy.
