San Jose Gateway PhD Program Celebrates Latest Graduates

 

Two students recently completed the innovative San Jose Gateway PhD program,
a research-focused doctoral program offered through a partnership between
the nationally ranked San Jose State University School of Library and
Information Science (SJSU SLIS) and Queensland University of Technology
(QUT), one of Australia's top research institutions. The program prepares
students for research, faculty, and leadership positions in the field of
library and information science.

 

Virginia Tucker

lecturer at SJSU SLIS, successfully completed the international doctoral
program in February 2013. The strengths of both the SJSU SLIS
<http://slisweb.sjsu.edu/>  and QUT <http://www.qut.edu.au/>  programs made
for an "exceptional experience," Tucker said. "It was the best of two
research worlds."

 

Tina Inzerilla

ogram-grad-aims-advance-librarianfaculty-collaboration> , who earned a
Master of Library and Information Science
<http://slisweb.sjsu.edu/programs/master-library-and-information-science-mli
s>  at SJSU SLIS in 2005, received her doctorate through the program in
January 2013. An instructional and reference librarian at a community
college in California, Inzerilla's future plans include publishing articles
and possibly a book based on her dissertation.

 

The San Jose Gateway PhD program

accepting doctoral students in 2008, and the first three students completed
the program in 2012. Using a primarily online model, the program emphasizes
original research from the start, with students receiving guidance and
one-on-one mentoring from award-winning faculty based on two continents.
