Dear GRC:

The results of the first GRC election to form the Executive Board are in.  Please join me in congratulating the following professionals!

Director, Matt Gray, University of Tennessee ([log in to unmask])

Associate Director, Jesse Brunner, Washington State University ([log in to unmask])

Asia Representative, Yumi Une, Azabu University ( [log in to unmask])

Australia Representative, Ellen Ariel, James Cook University ([log in to unmask])

Europe Representative, Rachel Marschang, Universität Hohenheim ([log in to unmask])

North America Representative, Thomas Waltzek, University of Florida ([log in to unmask])

South America Representative, Rolando Mazzoni, Universidade Federal de Goiás ([log in to unmask])

Dr. Greg Chinchar ([log in to unmask]) also agreed to serve as an honorary advisor on the Executive Board.

Thank you to the other candidates and to those that submitted nominations.

In 2013, we will be starting several tasks including drafting bylaws, seeking non-profit status, creating a new website, and beginning continental discussions (led by the representatives) over current research, pressing issues, future directions, and outreach tools/products.  These tasks will require significant participation and likely the formation of committees.  Once committees are identified by the Executive Board, we will solicit volunteers to participate.  If you know that you want to be involved in one or more of the aforementioned tasks, please send me your contact information.  It is likely that we will focus on these tasks after the 2013 Ranavirus Symposium, because many GRC members are currently consumed with symposium planning.

On that note, please begin to think about possible locations for the 2015 International Symposium on Ranaviruses.  As in 2011, we will take nominations for locations after this year’s symposium and conduct a vote via Survey Monkey.  If you submit a nomination for a location, it will be assumed that you are willing to host the symposium (with the assistance of the GRC).

Regarding the symposium, the schedule is nearly completed and will be posted soon to the WDA and symposium website (http://fwf.ag.utk.edu/WDA2013/default.html and  http://ranavirus.com/).  The fundraising committee has secure >$25,000 USD for symposium expenses and travel grants.  We will be awarding travel grants in May and June.  For those that can attend the symposium, we are looking forward to seeing you and interacting in July!

All the Best,

Matt
