Alex Haley became a valued friend and member of the academic community at UT and has been honored by the university, donors, and the state of Tennessee through scholarships in his name. These academic scholarships provide assistance to undergraduates at UT campuses in Knoxville, Martin, and Chattanooga. To benefit these scholarships, the tenth annual Alex Haley Auction and Golf Tournament will be held in Knoxville April 21 and 22, featuring guest speaker Nikki Giovanni.
