ITCoP: Sharing Apps for Education

The February IT Community of Practice focused on using the SMART technology equipment found in OIT’s Technology Enhanced Classrooms throughout campus. OIT Faculty Fellow, Will Schleter, demonstrated how to engage your class using the SMART Sympodium as well as a tablet PC and OneNote. For the March meeting, we will be "Sharing iPad Apps for Education". The meeting will be held Wednesday, March 20, from 12:30-1:30pm in the Practice Presentation Room in Commons North (220E) located in Hodges Library. Bring your lunch and join in the discussion and demo! OIT will provide coffee and something sweet; looking forward to seeing you there!

Mathematica Site License Available

The Mathematica site license is now available. The Wolfram Mathematica License Agreement between OIT and Wolfram Research, Inc. provides Mathematica to students, faculty and staff at UTK and UTSI. Mathematica is computational software used in science, engineering, finance and other diciplines that require mathematics. It is available for Linux, Mac and Windows on both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms. View what is new in Mathematica 9.

Mathematica 9 can be installed on faculty, staff, or student personally-owned or UT-owned computers. To acquire software and an Activation Key for the three installation types at UTK, log in to the OIT Software Distribution site and choose Wolfram Research Inc. Download and follow the Installation Instructions. Mathematica 9 is also available on the OIT apps server with a maximum of 100 simultaneous users. Fall Clicker Technology Upgrade

UTK’s Clicker Technology Program will undergo a major upgrade beginning Fall 2013.
OIT staff are currently testing the software with our Bb Course Management System in preparation for the upgrade. We will notify all clicker technology faculty users when the software testing and training becomes available campuswide. In preparation for the upgrade, our end-of-semester Clicker Roundtable will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, with Turning Technologies providing a training session from 9-11:30am, a luncheon presentation from 11:45am-12:45pm, and a training session from 1-3:30pm. Faculty are encouraged to attend either training session and lunch (place TBD). Turning Technologies will also provide training only on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 from 9am-12pm and 1-4pm. Additional sessions will be provided throughout the summer by OIT and Turning Technologies staff.
