Kate Brunelle, a graduate student in The University of Southern Mississippi School of Library and Information Science, is the recipient of a prestigious internship from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) in Washington, D.C.<br>
<br>Brunelle’s duties with the internship, which runs through June, include accessioning and processing collections in the museum’s international archives, as well as work on individual projects as directed.  “I&#39;m really excited to have this opportunity,” Brunelle said. “What work could be more important than documenting, preserving and making sure we don&#39;t forget such a horrific event in the history of the world?” <br>
<br>Brunelle said an internship at such a prominent museum will be beneficial when she pursues a career after graduation. “The USHMM works with so many types of archives and collections from so many places, and in so many different ways, that there are endless opportunities to learn and grow professionally,” she said. <br>
<br>A native of New Hampshire, Brunelle worked for the school system in Keene, N.H. for five years before coming to Southern Miss. She will graduate with her master’s degree in Library and Information Science and Graduate Certificate in Archives and Special Collections in August, and plans to work as an historian or archivist in a museum or repository.  <br>
<br>“The School of Library and Information Science is very pleased and proud that one of our students has such a wonderful opportunity,” said Dr. Elizabeth Haynes, interim director of the school. “Kate’s background in history will be an asset to her in this endeavor and the internship will further her aim for a career path in archives and special collections.”<br>
