This unique program is offered in an online and in-classroom format by LIU Post and will meet the growing need for professional skills development in corporations, non-profits and the public sector. Organizations large and small invest in training their employees as a way to improve staff productivity and motivation, gain competitive advantage, or comply with professional and governmental regulations. The volume of training continues to grow at a rapid rate, with much of the delivery moving online. Especially in demand are instructional designers who can also advise and consult with business leaders to reach the best solution to meet business priorities and fulfill goals. "Instructional designers, trainers and professional skills developers are key to an organization's success, and the demand for them is growing," said Dr. Robert Hannafin, dean of the College of Education, Information and Technology at LIU Post and a former executive at PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP. "This program also offers new career opportunities for teachers to transfer their classroom skills (i.e. listening, facilitating discussion, and managing difficult conversations), into the corporate setting." The 30-credit master's degree is taught in a blended format - part online, part face-to-face - and can be completed in 11 months. Students will earn both the M.S. degree and a Professional Skills Certificate, credentials that will expand their professional horizons. The program begins with an intensive, two-week summer term at the LIU Post campus in Brookville, followed by online courses through the fall and spring semesters, and culminates with one more two-week intensive session at the university. Courses provide a broad base of knowledge in communication, instructional design, online teaching and learning, knowledge services, organizational behavior, and leadership development. Graduates of this interdisciplinary program will gain the knowledge, competency and skills to be successful in organizations needing trainers, instructional designers, facilitators/coaches, and learning and professional skills consultants.
