The East Tennessee Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication is now accepting submissions for the 2013 Blakely Awards.  These awards honor student excellence in technical communications and science journalism.
 
Awards are given in two divisions:
  • Undergraduate
  • Graduate.
The categories are
  • Technical communications
  • Science journalism.
 
The rules:
  1. Entrants must have been students at the time the submission was created.
  2. All submissions must have been produced or substantially revised in 2012.
  3. The work must have been published electronically or online.  Coursework is acceptable if the piece was later published.
  4. Any student at any university (online or in-person) in any major is eligible to enter.  Membership in STC is not required.
  5. The competition is open to part-time and full-time students, but professionals working in technical communications (including those professionals who are also in school) are not eligible.
  6. Work created for an internship or co-op program (paid or unpaid) is eligible.
To enter:
  1. Please e-mail your entry as a PDF, video, or audio file to [log in to unmask] with the subject line Blakely Award Entry.
  2. Please include the following information in the body of your e-mail:
    1. Your full name (as you would want it to appear on your certificate)
    2. Your e-mail address
    3. Your telephone number
    4. The division in which you are entering (undergraduate or graduate)
    5. The category in which you are entering (technical communications or science journalism)
    6. A 250-word or less paragraph in which you explain the circumstances around your entry (any special obstacles you had to overcome, what led you to write about this topic, etc.).  This is information the judges can use to help evaluate your entry.
  3. Deadline to enter is 11:59 p.m. Saturday, March 23.
